Kobald then hits the Demon’s Toilet for the win at 10:56. This was a really fun opening match with lots of action that escalated and got the fans into the nearfalls. It was exactly what you would want from an opening match. Pinkie Sanchez may be the most underrated guy on the Indies. ***

El Hijo del Ice Cream {IC} & Ice Cream Jr. {IC} vs. Adam Ward & Burt West

Hijo jumps West and sends him face first into the top turnbuckle. He throws Ward face first into Jr.’s feet. They toss him out and in comes West. “Mr. Touchdown” Mark Angelosetti {T} vs. Wani

After some chops, Angelosetti lands a middle rope crossbody. He gives Wani two back elbows and a dropkick. He gives Wani a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for two. Wani gets in some shots to Angelosetti’s throat as well as some knife edge chops. Angelosetti stops Wani’s cascade with a reverse powerbomb. Juan Francisco de Coronado comes out, offering his flag to Angelosetti for the purpose of cheating. Angelosetti tries to ignore Coronado and places Wani on the top turnbuckle. He yells at Coronado to leave. The distraction allows Wani to fight back and knock Angelosetti to the mat. He comes off the middle rope, but Angelosetti catches him and drives him to the corner. After a few shoulder tackles he hits the ropes. Wani cuts him off with a clothesline to the stomach into an STO for two. Angelosetti comes back with a Northern Lights suplex. Wani kicks out and gives Angelosetti a reverse vertical suplex for two. Wani gets hung upside down in the corner. Angelosetti gives him a number of shoulder tackles before climbing the ropes. Coronado tries grabbing his leg but Angelosetti kicks him off. This gives Wani time to get his knees up as Angelosetti tries a Superfly splash. Wani cradles Angelosetti but Angelosetti still kicks out as two.Wani drops Angelosetti onto his stomach and drops him with a running neckbreaker for the pin at 13:34. Wani is really impressive and has a very bright future. He and Angelosetti meshed together really well and told a great story. I’m interested in where the Coronado storyline goes, and I appreciate that his involvement didn’t have a direct effect on the outcome. ***¼

Kodama says that their opponents may be born for battle, but he and Obariyon were bred for war, bred to be a Dark Army. Obariyon says the Battleborn may be united by the traumas they faced, but nothing will prepare them for the trauma the Batiri is going to unleash upon them.

Obariyon comes off the second turnbuckle with a Frankensteiner, but dropkicks Calhoun instead of tagging out. Missile snaps and elbow drops his leg before dragging him back to the corner. Calhoun misses a splash and Missile misses an uppercut. Kodama tags in and unloads with clotheslines and a dropkick to Missile. He low bridges the top rope to send Calhoun out. Kodama backdrops Calhoun. Missile puts Kodama in a sharpshooter. Obariyon breaks the hold by giving Missile the Flying DDT. Calhoun eats a flurry of feet in the corner. They hit him with the Redrum, but that did damage to Obariyon’s already worn down leg. Missile takes out Kodama with a dangling reverse DDT off of the ring apron. He pulls Calhoun out of the ring. Obariyon small packages Missile for two. Missile puts on the sharpshooter and Obariyon taps out at 11:51. This gives Battleborn their third point. This told a great story, with the Batiri getting sympathy and Missile looking like a calculated killer. Both teams looked strong in the match and the Battleborn’s great strategy proved them worthy of a win and title opportunity. Good stuff. **¾

Ophidian tells Shynron and Argus that the Colony’s words in the Event Center struck a nerve with him. He believes the Snake Pit has cut the dead weight and are better than ever. Ophidian agrees the Colony is the greatest trio in CHIKARA, but they haven’t teamed in over a year. But, he doesn’t appreciate that the Colony thinks that they can march through the Snake Pit. He says they have passion, determination, and that he will lead them to victory, just as he did at “Top Banana.”

Worker Ant catches his kick but he Pele kicks Fire Ant and Silver Ant at the same time. Worker Ant powerbombs Shynron mid-air to stop his coast-to-coast dropkick. Shynron then falls to the Ant Hill giving the Colony the win at 19:34. These two teams had an exciting, action packed match. This rehabbed the Colony who had been all but absent as a team for a year, put over the Snake Pit as a force to be reckoned with, and showed how much Argus has improved, all in one fell swoop. It was like a Dragon Gate six man where the action just kept building until it ended. I expected this to be good but it crushed my expectations. Hats off to everyone. ***¾

Oleg the Usurper remarks that Princess Kimberlee is a good fighter. She had her moment, but now it is time for his moment. He says that it will be an honor claiming her head.

Grand Championship
Princess Kimberlee vs. Oleg the Usurper

Princess Kimberlee has been champion since 12.5.2015 and this is her first defense. Oleg throws her to the ropes out of a lock-up. He warns her by yelling “off with your head” in her face. She kicks at Oleg’s legs and tries a German suplex. He breaks the waistlock and butts her away. She catches him in the ropes with an Anaconda Vise. After breaking the hold, she comes off the top with a dropkick. A spin kick to the head brings Oleg to his knees. Kimberlee lays in some chest kicks. Oleg catches her leg and grabs her throat. She takes the arm and puts on a cross armbreaker. Oleg gets to the ropes instantly and proclaims “off with YOUR head” in his face. She delivers a running forearm and bicycle kick. Oleg splashes her against the ropes. A young fan distracts Oleg, but not long enough, as he gives Kim a backbreaker and a rolling senton for two. He picks up speed off the ropes and splashes Kimberlee in the corner. She kicks out of Oleg’s multiple pin attempts. She gives Oleg a split-legged chinbreaker. Oleg’s arms get tied up in the ropes, giving Kimberlee the opening to throw an onslaught of kicks to the chest. Referee Bryce Remsburg frees him, but Kimberlee unloads with chops to Oleg in the corner. A basement face crusher only gets her a one count. She sends Oleg to the floor and follows with a suicide dive. Oleg recovers and hits a Usurper kick. Oleg attempts a vertical suplex, but Kimberlee reverses it! Very angry, Oleg gets back in the name right before the 20 count. He chokeslams her right away. He does the deal with a Falcon Arrow. Oleg gives Kimberlee skull crusher across his hip. She bridges her shoulders off the mat just before the three count. He goes for Off With Her Head. She slides through Oleg’s legs and German suplexes him for two. Kimberlee gets on the CHIKARA Sepcial when suddenly Ice Cream Jr. attacks her. El Hijo del Ice Cream is there looking confused. Jr. unmasks to reveal himself to be Blaster McMassive! The match is ruled a No DQ win for Princess Kimberlee in 12:19. This was a great showcase for both competitors, as Oleg got to be a monster and Kimberlee got to be the small but mighty foe willing to fight and nearly conquer the monster. I had some concerns about how the match would go, but I think it was executed perfectly. I don’t know how great it is for Kimberlee’s first defense to end in a DQ, but hopefully she will have some strong defenses forthcoming to solidify her reign. ***

The Devastation Corporation beats down Oleg and Kimberlee. Max Smashmaster tells Oleg that just because he ripped up his contract, there’s no return policy when you make a deal with the devil. He says they’re not done and never will be. He then forces Kimberlee to watch a young female fan who is crying as a result of the carnage. Max says he’s not coming for Kimberlee’s title, he’s coming for her life. I love this Devastation Corporation. No fun and games, just ruining people.
