Challenge of the Immortals
Chuck Taylor {GC} vs. Frightmare

Taylor represents the Gentleman’s Club while Frightmare represents the Nightmare Warriors. Frightmare ends a wristlock exchange by taking over Taylor with a snapmare. Taylor brings him down into a front facelock and smacks Frightmare on the buttocks. This come moments after Taylor claimed Frightmare pulled his hair and touched his butt (false). Taylor takes him over into a headscissors lock. Frightmare escapes. Frightmare pulls him down into a modified Stretch Muffler. Taylor gets the ropes to break out of it. He takes Frightmare to the corner and whips him across. Frightmare catches him coming in with a boot, then comes off the top rope with a swinging Frankensteiner that sends Taylor to the floor. Taylor moves so Frightmare cannot dive. Taylor takes his time outside, so Frightmare comes out and chops him around ringside. In the ring he nails a top rope dropkick for two. He chokes Taylor on the middle rope. He gets two with a leaping clothesline. A Jon Woo dropkick and a second dropkick afterwards yield the same result. Taylor back elbows Frightmare and boots him before coming off the second rope for a dropkick. Taylor lays in some shots before landing Sole Food. Frightmare ducks a clothesline and drops Taylor with a neckbreaker for two. Frightmare charges only to be met with a Brodie Knee and superkick. Frightmare is able to catch him with a yakuza kick. He spikes Taylor with a tornado DDT, but again Taylor kicks out. He calls for a super Kneecolepsy. Taylor however crotches Frightmare on the top turnbuckle and brings him down with the Awful Waffle for the pin at 8:44. There was a relaxed, fun atmosphere to this match. While what they did was relatively basic, it all looked great and kept the crowd going, which is exactly what you want from an opener. **½

Race Jaxon {NRG}, Hype Rockwell {NRG} & The Estonian Farmerfrog vs. Darin Corbin, Drake Carter & Shaun Cannon

This is the Estonian Famerfrog’s debut, and he greatly resembles the late Estonian Thunderfrog. Carter and Shannon comprise a tag team known as the Punk Rock All Stars who mainly wrestle in the Mid-Atlantic. Jaxon confuses Corbin by running across the ring multiple times. Corbin slows down time. He hip tosses Jaxon. He tries again, but Jaxon turns it into a tornado clutch. Corbin counters with a crucifix pin. As they stand off, Corbin kicks Jaxon and throws him to the apron. Jaxon comes back in with a slingshot shoulder block. Farmerfrog is back elbowed by both Punk Rock All Stars. He mows them down with a double clothesline. He drops Cannon with a Gourd Buster. Carter pulls Cannon out, but Farmerfrog comes off the top with a double axe handle to both of them. N_R_G both splash Corbin in the corner. Rockwell mows him down with a clothesline. Cannon breaks the pin. He tosses Rockwell out, so Jaxon comes in with a high crossbody. Jaxon and Rockwell nail Cannon with an enzuigiri/corner dropkick combo. Rockwell Finlay rolls Cannon into a top rope elbow drop from Jaxon. Carter breaks the cover and drives Jaxon head first into the tunrbuckle. Cannon clotheslines Jaxon from the apron. The Punk Rock All Stars mock Jaxon as they beat him down in their corner. Corbin gets his hands a little dirty as well. Jaxon is able to escape a suplex from Carter and shove him to the corner. He superkicks Cannon and tags in both Rockwell and Farmerfrog. They lay out the Punk Rock All Stars with forearms and elbows before delivering stereo Oklahoma Stampede’s. Corbin breaks both pin attempts. Corbin brings Farmerfrog to the top turnbuckle. Rockwell brings Corbin down with an Electric Chair. The All Stars get rid of him. They want a double superplex on Farmerfrog. Rockwell comes back in and double powerbombs the All Stars instead! Corbin sneaks in the Stroke on Rockwell. Jaxon drop toe holds him into the bottom turnbuckle. Jaxon takes out Carter with the Energizer. Rockwell slams Cannon. Corbin drags Rockwell out and sends him into the ring post, causing Farmerfrog to crotch on the top rope. Corbin brings down Farmerfrog with the Ginger Snap. The All Stars land a Blue Thunder Bomb/neckbreaker combo for the win at 11:03. This was really fun. The two teams had chemistry, N_R_G incorporated a lot of new offense, and the All Stars kept the crowd engaged through their beatdown. Of course, people loved seeing the Farmerfrog too. I didn’t expect much and ended up pleasantly surprised. ***

Oleg the Usurper thinks Arik Cannon’s hair is funny. He plans to take Cannon’s head with hair intact and place it high atop his mantle.

Arik Cannon vs. Oleg the Usurper

Oleg muscles Cannon to the mat. Cannon tries a waistlock. Oleg uses his posterior to break Cannon’s grip. Oleg shoulder blocks Cannon as Cannon comes off the ropes. Cannon kips up and delivers a haymaker. Angry, Oleg muscles him to the corner. Cannon ducks a strike and delivers a knife edge chop. He punches and superkicks Oleg. Oleg responds with a Usurper kick for two. Cannon rolls to the apron. Oleg boots him to the floor and follows with a rolling senton off the ring apron. He steps on Cannon’s chest back in the ring and works over his mid-section in the corner. Oleg picks up speed off the ropes before splashing Cannon against the turnbuckles for two. He violently whips Cannon into the corner. A chop exchange ends with a sole butt kick and bulldog from Cannon. A dropkick takes Oleg to the corner. Cannon takes him down with a twisting neckbreaker for two. Cannon nails another haymaker. Oleg splashes Cannon against the ropes. He gives Cannon a facebuster across his thigh and a big boot to the face. Out of the corner he delivers a rolling senton for two. Oleg calls for Off With His Head. Cannon instead pulls down Oleg into a mouse trap pin for the win at 7:57. The thing I liked most about this is how it felt like each man had some stakes going into this, with Cannon being the hometown hero and each man looking for his first point. I also think it was important for Oleg to look dominant, even in a loss, which he did. At it’s core it was nothing more than an exhibition bout, but I’m plenty okay with that. **½

Mr. Touchdown gives Heidi Lovelace and Icarus a pep talk. He tells them both they need to be as confident as Dasher Hatfield has been; it’s led him to many victories! (Nevermind his questionable new elbow pad.) He reminds them that teamwork makes the dream work.

Challenge of the Immortals
Icarus, Mark Angelosetti {T} & Heidi Lovelace vs. Princess Kimberlee, El Hijo del Ice Cream {IC} & Ice Cream Jr. {IC}

Icarus’ team represents Dasher’s Dugout while Kimberlee’s team represents Crown & Court. There’s so much stalling Icarus forgot the bell rang, and feels foolish when he tells Bryce to ring the bell. Hijo informs Icarus that the wristlock Icarus has him in “hurts so much.” He’s seriously considering quitting. He tries reaching for a tag, but settles for throwing Icarus off and into Angelosetti. Hijo then pinches Angelosetti in the buttocks. Back in the ring he sends Angelosetti to the floor. Icarus catches Hijo with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Hijo heads to the floor where Angelosetti gives him a second tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Kimberlee attacks Angelosetti from behind. He lights him up with forearm strikes. Angelosetti shoves her down, but she comes back with a dropkick and armdrag. Although Angelosetti rolls through a sunset flip, she takes him over in a crucifix pin for two. Jr. enters. Angelosetti jumps out and Lovelace takes down Jr. with a pair of armdrags and a satellite headscissors. She drives Jr. face first into the middle turnbuckle. The Dugout take turns on offense against Jr. Jr. slips out of a back suplex from Lovelace, bringing in Hijo. He slaps her in the face, but Lovelace swings out of a slam and gives Hijo a chinbreaker. She tries to send him face first into the middle turnbuckle, but Hijo counters with a waterwheel slam for two. He rakes his feet across her face. Los Ice Creams put a replica mask on Lovelace and hug her before, along with Kimberlee, turning the tables and isolating her in their corner. Lovelace hop sover Jr., bringing in Icarus with a series of running shoulder blocks. He comes off the second rope with a swinging Frankensteiner. He follows Jr. to the floor with a pescado. Angelosetti backs Hijo into the corner violently. Hijo flips out of a courting hold and Manhataan drops Angelosetti. Hijo monkey flips him across the ring. The second time Angelosetti lands on his feet. He shoulder tackles Hijo twice. Hijo catches him on the third try with a knee lift. Angelosetti tilt-a-whirl slams Hijo. Kimberlee breaks the cover and tosses Angelosetti to the floor. Lovelace and Kimberlee block each other’s offense. Kimberlee comes down in the splits and rolls up Lovelace for two. They maul one another with forearms against the ropes. Lovelace ends the transaction with a Saito suplex. Angelosetti places Hijo on the top turnbuckle. Lovelace brings him down with a super Frankensteiner. Icarus lands a running knee strike. When Hijo kicks out, he pulls him up. Kimberlee boots Icarus to block the Wings of Icarus on Hijo. She also blocks a spinebuster from Angelosetti. Angelosetti looks for a delayed superplex on Kimberlee. Los Ice Creams however catch Kimberlee, sparing her from the impact. They toss her into Angelosetti for a huracanrana. Angelosetti kicks out. Lovelace spikes Jr. with a tornado DDT. Hijo stops her from delivering the Heidicanrana. Kimberlee blind tags in and sunset flips Lovelace into the Alligator Clutch for the pin at 14:14! This felt like a big win as Crown & Court, the once last place team, defeated the first place team soundly. The action was well paced and really fun to watch. I liked watching Kimberlee interact with everybody on the Dugout team, and it would not surprise me if we saw her challenge for the Young Lions Cup sooner or later. ***½

F1RST Wrestling Wrestlepalooza Championship
Ariya Daivari vs. Kody Rice vs. Venom vs. Wildcat

Daivari insists on praying at the beginning of the count. Wildcat literally pulls the rug out from underneath him, causing him to trip. Rice and Venom blind Daivari with his headgear, and the three other competitors volley him between them with punches. Wildcat then throws him to the floor. Rice wants to put on baby oil. Venom and Wildcast kick him and attempt a double suplex. Rice is large enough to take them over with his own double suplex. He oils up. Venom can’t get a good grip on a wristlock or waistlock. Rice gives him some punches before dropping him with a scoop slam. He sets up for the Earthquake splash, but Daivari pulls him to the floor and sends him into the ring post. Wildcast throws Daivari back out. He drop toe holds the charging Venom. After they exchange headlocks, Wildcat monkey flips Venom and sends him out with a dropkick. Venom and Daivari drag Wildcast out to the floor. They pummel on him until Wildcast throws their heads together. Rice comes off the apron with a cannonball senton onto Daivari and Venom. Wildcat and Rice are standing off when a ball of yarn is thrown into the ring by a fan. Rice tosses the ball around, which Wildcast follows. Daivari and Venom jump in and attack them both. Daivari rubs the ball of yarn in Wildcast’s face. He and Venom beatdown Rice and Wildcat in opposite corners. Wildcat fights back, but his crossbody is caught by Venom. Venom slams him, and Daivari breaks the pin. Daivari and Venom argue, allowing Rice to take them out with stereo clotheslines. He splashes both men in the corner, then comes in with a shooting star cannonball to Venom. Wildcat drops Rice with the Eye of the Hurricane. Venom breaks the count. Daivari cracks Venom with a discus forearm strike. Wildcat slams Daivari and shoves Rice to the floor. Wildcat dives off the top onto Rice in the crowd. Venom looks poised to strike when Daivari cuts him off with a superkick. Daivari’s Magic Carpet Ride pins Venom at 10:36. For a showcase, this delivered in the sense that the characters connected with the crowd and the wrestling was solid. However, I don’t know if any particular person made a lasting impression, or that any of them would fit into any long term plans. **¾

Jakob Hammermeier says a lot of people are jealous of Hallowicked’s Grand Championship. He is not jealous of that, but is jealous that Hallowicked has a loyal Challenge of the Immortals team who listen to him. Hammermeier believes that if his team listened to him, they could capture all of the glory. He ends things with a respectable WOO!

He keeps momentum with a variety of strikes in the corner before he snapmares Hammermeier out into a back and chest stomp. Hallowicked ducks a clothesline. Hammermeier ducks a yakuza kick. He hits Hallowicked with his own Go 2 Sleepy Hallow! Angry, Hallowicked executes the move himself. Hammermeier creates some distance with some boots. However, Hallowicked catchees a boot and nails Never Wake Up (a cradle fisherman’s brainbuster) for the pin at 5:51. Although this was short, it was aggressive and worked very well. **¼

Ophidian says the list of accomplishments in the Snake Pit is long, yet as a team find themselves stuck in the middle of the Challenge of the Immortals. He and Shynron seem confident that they will be victorious against the United Nations tonight, while Eddie Kingston looks disinterested and annoyed.

Challenge of the Immortals
Ophidian {OP}, Eddie Kingston & Shynron vs. Juan Francisco de Coronado, The Proletariat Boar of Moldova {BP} & Prakash Sabar {BP}

Ophidian’s team represents the Snake Pit while Coronado’s team represents the United Nations. Kingston easily slams Coronado after Coronado fails to knock him down with running shoulder blocks. Even a knee from Boar does nothing to help Coronado German suplex Kingston. Boar tags in and big boots Kingston to the floor. Ophidian tries locking on the Death Grip, but Boar maneuvers out and backdrops him. Ophidian avoids a corner attack and headscissors Boar from the apron. Ophidian hits a spin kick but Boar responds with a powerslam. Ophidian comes back with an enzuigiri. Shynron slingshots in with a headscissors to Boar. Before he can follow to the floor, Sabar attacks him from behind. Shynron cartwheels out of Sabar’s headscissors attempt. He also ducks his bulldog and snaps off a headscissors of his own. Shynron dropkicks Sabar into the ropes. He uses the Leaning Tower of Shynron to take Sabar off of his feet, then slingshots in with a corkscrew senton. Ophidian and Shynron double hip toss Sabar into a standing moonsault/senton combo. Shynron spin kicks Coronado. Ophidian headstands into a headbutt. Kingston gives him a swinging fisherman’s neckbreaker for two. A distraction from the Boar allows Coronado to chop block Kingston’s perpetually hurt knee. The United Nations wisely target Kingston’s knee while keeping his partners at bay. Kingston catches Coronado with a belly-to-belly suplex in the corner. Kingston looks to continue fighting but Ophidian tags himself in when Kingston is delivering jabs to Coronado. Kingston is not pleased. Ophidian uses the ropes to hit the Duat Driver for two. Boar and Sabar pull Kingston and Shynron down and pummel them on the floor. Coronado dropkicks Ophidian to the corner where Sabar successfully hits the Bronco Buster. Boar spins him out into a sidewalk slam for two. Ophidian is beaten down until he avoids a boot from the Boar and tags in Kingston. Limping, Kingston takes over the Boar in a Northern Lights suplex. He calls for the Backfist which causes Sabar and Coronado to jump in and attack. Kingston rolls out, allowing Shynron to come in with a back handspring double Ace Crusher for a two count on Coronado. Sabar accidentally throws Shynron’s foot into Coronado’s head. Coronado enzuigiri’s Coronado. He then slingshots in with a neckbreaker on Sabar, forcing him to DDT Coronado in the process. He comes off the apron with a standing shooting star press to Sabar. Ophidian drives his knees into Coronado’s chest twice in the corner. Coronado rolls through Meteora and locks on the Coronado Clutch. Kingston tries to break it but Coronado kicks him in the knee. Boar throws Kingston out. Kingston looks to come in with a chair but referee Bryce Remsburg stops him. Ophidian uses the ropes to slide back and reverse prawn holds Coronado. Coronado rolls through and muscles up Ophidian into a German suplex. Shynron breaks the bridge with a standing shooting star press for two. He misses a 450 splash. Boar hits the Fame-Asser. Sabar nails the X-Factor. Coronado drops Shynron with the Tiger Driver. Shynron kicks out. Ophidian holds onto the ropes after being sent into them. He gets Coronado to the floor and comes out with a headscissors. He sends Sabar into Boar. Ophidian pump kicks Sabar and comes off the top with Meteora. Boar Gore’s Ophidian. Kingston leapfrogs over Boar’s Gore and hits the Backfist to the Future before crumpling from his bad knee. Shynron gives Sabar an F5 and the Spirit Bomb for the pin at 20:58. Everybody worked together to tell a simple, yet effective story while keeping a nice pace to the action. Shynron picking up the win was the right choice as it gives him momentum going into his title match with Hallowicked tomorrow. I also really like that they played into Kingston’s hurt knee, especially since that story arc hasn’t been used in a while. A great way to cap off the show. ***½

Encore Match
Blaster McMassive {DC} vs. Soldier Ant {BDK}

Soldier Ant stomps down McMassive in the corner after nailing a running big boot. He ducks McMassive’s clothesline and takes him over with a satellite headscissors. McMassive absorbs a blow to the neck. He pops up Soldier Ant, who cascades down into a sunset flip for two. McMassive gives him multiple big boots but Soldier Ant pops right back up. He sends McMassive to the corner with a Koppu Kick. McMassive throws him down onto his chest and nails a lariat. Soldier Ant kicks out at one. Soldier Ant comes off the top with a missile dropkick. McMassive responds with the Bossman Slam for two. Soldier Ant avoids a suplex. He backslides McMassive. Soldier Ant escapes a second Bossman Slam attempt and delivers the Trench Slam for two. Both men go to the top turnbuckle. Soldier Ant brings McMassive down with a super Trench Slam for the pin at 4:46. Maybe it’s just me, but this was just a glimpse of what’s to potentially come of Soldier Ant in the future, as the crowd was very firmly behind him like they were in his Colony days. McMassive was a great opponent for him, more than holding his end up of the Hoss Battle bargain and making Soldier Ant look strong. Cheers from the crowd almost lead Soldier Ant to salute, but ultimately just grabs his head in anguish and leaves. **¼
