Amasis {OP} vs. Frightmare

Frightmare is playing the role of “gatekeeper”, as Amasis earns a title match with his partner Hallowicked if he is (and Hallowicked in the main event) are victorious. He Jon Woo dropkicks Amasis right at the bell and snapmares him into a back kick. He pummels Amasis’ back with forearms. Amasis fights back with a barrage of punches and a sole butt kick. Frightmare ducks a clothesline and drops Amasis with a neckbreaker. He chops Amasis against the ropes and lands a dropkick for two. A strike exchange occurs back on their feet. Amasis lands a leaping knee strike. Frightmare lands a yakuza kick. He slams Amasis for a one count. He chokes Amasis on the middle rope. They strike one another while on their knees and trade forearms as they get to their feet. Another knee strike from Amasis results in Frightmare spiking Amasis with a Frankensteiner. He misses Kneecolepsy. Amasis nails a 540 kick for two. Amasis spins Frightmare off his shoulders into a facebuster. Amasis gives Frightmare a running knee strike for two. He ascends the ropes, but Frightmare hits a step-up enzuigiri and brings him down for a two count. Kneecolespy connects for two. Amasis spikes Frightmare on his head with a DDT as Frightmare comes off the ropes. Amasis lands a 450 splash for the pin at 5:45. There was a period in the beginning where these two looked like they had NO idea what they were doing. Multiple deer in the headlight moments caused me to cringe. They managed to get it together and end strongly, but this was rough going. ½*

Challenge of the Immortals
Icarus & Heidi Lovelace vs. Jakob Hammermeier {BDK} & Soldier Ant {BDK}

Icarus’ team represents Dasher’s Dugout while Hammermeier’s team represents the BDK. ‘Mr. Touchdown’ Mark Angelosetti is in Dasher’s Dugout’s corner. Soldier Ant throws Lovelace to the mat out of a lock-up, twice. He trips her into a spinning toe hold. Lovelace kicks her way out, so Soldier Ant slams her. Lovelace blocks a kick and drives her knee into Soldier Ant’s face. She kicks him to the ropes, but Soldier Ant closes the distance with a running forearm to the face. She kicks Soldier Ant to avoid a corner attack and lands a high crossbody for two. She uses the ropes to monkey flip Soldier Ant. Icarus tags in and assists Lovelace with a tandem suplex. Soldier Ant rolls out bringing in Hammermeier. He avoids a dropkick but takes a hip toss and armdrag. Icarus suplexes him for two. Hammermeier gives Icarus a Death Valley Driver onto his knee brace. He hits the Gute Nacht for two. He throws some shots to Icarus’ neck. Icarus begins to fight back, so Hammermeier lays him out with a rolling clothesline for two. Soldier Ant assists Hammermeier in wearing down Icarus and keeping him isolated. Icarus evades a running forearm from Hammermeier in the corner and tags in Lovelace. She rocks Hammermeier with some forearms of her own. Hammermeier sends her to the apron. She headbutts Hammermeier and comes off the top with dropkicks to both Soldier Ant and Hammermeier. She unleashes running boots to both of them and throws their heads together. She hops off of Hammermeier’s back into a DDT on Soldier Ant. She ducks Hammermeier’s haymaker and belly-to-back suplexes him. Soldier Ant breaks the cover. Icarus comes in for a spear, but Soldier Ant avoids it and takes him down with a rolling, saluting forearm. Lovelace spikes Soldier Ant with a huracanrana for two. He dropkicks Lovelace and gives her a scoop slam. He gives her a 2k1 Bomb for two. Icarus jumps in to stop Hammermeier and Soldier Ant’s double team offense on Lovelace. Icarus spears Soldier Ant and Lovelace enzuigiri’s Hammermeier. Icarus and Lovelace deliver F.I.S.T. Kicks. She gives Hammermeier a super a Frankensteiner. A running knee from Icarus follows, but Soldier Ant breaks the cover. Lovelace tries a crossbody. Soldier Ant counters with a fallaway slam. Icarus goes for the Shiranui. Soldier Ant slides out. Hammermeier delivers a rolling haymaker. Soldier Ant gives Icarus the Trench Slam for the pin at 12:27. This match was all over the place. At the very least Icarus’ worn down neck paid off in the finish. Something was needed to make this a complete package, but in the end it felt like it was some action and then a conclusion with little tying it together.**¼

Sidney Bakabella reminds Oleg the Usurper that he has a contract with him and that he does not like that Oleg has a friendship with “the green guys” (the Batiri) who are also in the following match. Bakabella says that Oleg is a king and is above the Batiri. Bakabella states that the Wrecking Crew are the most important team in the forthcoming match and that we can take that to the pay window.

Elimination Match
Obariyon {B} & Kodama {B} vs. Jaka {TWC} & Oleg the Usurper {TWC} vs. Nøkken {BDK} & Pinkie Sanchez {BDK} vs. Juan Francisco de Coronado & The Proletariat Boar of Moldova {BP}

Sidney Bakabella is in The Wrecking Crew’s corner. Oleg is about to start with Nøkken, but Jaka tags himself in. Jaka’s running shoulder blocks have no effect. He lays in some strikes. Nøkken kicks his arm away and gives him two belly-to-back suplexes. Jaka sole butt kicks Nøkken. He tries to hop over Nøkken, but Nøkken uppercuts him mid-air. Jaka ducks a bicycle kick. He shoulder ackles Nøkken to the ropes and sends him out with the T’Challa kick. Jaka follows with a pescado. Boar boots down Obariyon and then gives him a side slam. Obariyon gets his elbow up to stop a charge in the corner. He puts on a standing Octopus stretch. Boar grabs the ropes to escape. Kodama and Boar are about to lock-up when Coronado jumps Kodama from behind. Boar chokes Kodama on the bottom rope. The United Nations take turns wearing down Kodama in their corner. However, when Coronado lifts him up for a German suplex, Kodama is able to counter into a prawn hold for the pin at 6:43! Sanchez immediately comes in with a sliding dropkick to Kodama. He also knock Obariyon off the apron so the BDK can pick up where the United Nations left off. Sanchez accidentally splashes Nøkken, allowing Obariyon to tag in. He comes in hot with strikes on both BDK members and gives Sanchez a Michinoku Driver. He chops up Nøkken who fires up and shoves Obariyon down. Obariyon drop toe holds him on the middle rope and drives his knee into the back of his head. Jaka comes in with some shots to Obariyon. Obariyon takes him down. Jaka grabs referee Jonathan Barber shoe Bakabella can hit Obariyon with his shoe! Oleg does not seem pleased, and neither does Kodama. Bakabella shoves Oleg’s contract in his face, and Flex Rumblecrunch is also there to remind Oleg of who owns him. Jaka keeps on Obariyon. Kodama is knocked off the apron, knocking down Oleg. Meanwhile, Nøkken gives Jaka a sit-out chokeslam to pin and eliminate the Wrecking Crew at 12:42. Of course, Rumblecrunch and Bakabella blame Oleg for the loss, asking where was he to stop the cover. The Batiri nail Nøkken with the Skull Bronzing and give Sanchez the Redrum. Nøkken stops the pin attempt. He back elbows Obariyon and tosses Kodama. Sanchez double stomps Obariyon into a draping DDT from Nøkken. Kodama breaks the pin. Nøkken chokeslams Obariyon onto Kodama! Sanchez lands a moonsault for the pin and the win at 14:22. While the Batiri and BDK were getting it done with the wrestling (Coronado and Boar were fine but weren’t in the match long enough to leave an impression), the side story with Oleg and the Wrecking Crew was executed effectively without detracting from the match. I also think the BDK looked really strong, busting out some nifty tandem offense (Nøkken backdropping Sanchez into a double stomp is dope), and with them getting two points in just this match alone, it shows that their efforts to be more cohesive paid off. Wonderful stuff. ***

Princess Kimberlee says she knows her team has had some trouble in the Challenge of the Immortals, but she has faith in them. Los Ice Creams may lose quite a bit, and Jervis Cottonbelly may be too nice for his own good, but she tells us that in the end, “we’ll all see.”

Challenge of the Immortals
Princess Kimberlee, Jervis Cottonbelly, El Hijo del Ice Cream {IC} & Ice Cream Jr. {IC} vs. Ophidian {OP}, Eddie Kingston, Shynron & Argus

Kimberlee’s team represents Crown & Court while Ophidian’s team represents the Snake Pit. Argus controls Jr. on the mat. They switch wristlocks and hammerlocks. Argus sends Jr. out with a rolling sole butt kick. Los Ice Creams are perturbed enough to consider leaving, but ultimately they do not. Cottonbelly stands toe to toe with Kingston. Cottonbelly tries tickling his stomach. Kingston throws a dropkick. Cottonbelly ducks and maneuvers him into a side Russian leg sweep. He tries the rock-a-bye suplex, but his back gives out. Kingston tosses Cottonbelly across the ring with a belly-to-belly suplex. Hijo looks to fanny pinch Kingston, but he leaves and Shynron jumps in. He stops Hijo’s dancing with some leg kicks. He mocks Hijo’s dance, but Hijo boots him down ands its on his chest. he pinches Shynron’s fanny. Shynron responds with a step-up Frankensteiner. He sweeps out Hijo’s legs and comes in from the apron with a twisting senton. Ophidian fights for a backslide on Kimberlee. He front bridges over but Kimberlee still kicks out. Kimberlee cuts him off with a forearm, but he follows up with a spinwheel kick. She boots Ophidian and looks for a German suplex. Ophidian frees himself, but takes a tilt-a-whirl DDT. Los Ice Creams toss Ophidian into the corner, and the Crown & Court for once take the advantage by wearing down the Snake Pit team captain. Ophidian rolls out after a double elbow from Cottonbelly and Kimberlee. Argus jumps in, but is immediately cut off by Cottonbelly, and ostensibly takes Ophidian’s place. He rolls out fairly quickly after a tandem elbow drop. Cottonbelly and Kimberlee attack Shynron as he enters. He finds himself mauled in the Crown & Court corner. Los Ice Creams try a double hip toss which Shynron turns into a double Pele kick. He ducks a double clothesline from Cottonbelly and Kimberlee and gives them both a back handspring Ace Crusher. Cottonbelly misses a corner attack, causing him to crash down on his left knee. Kingston jumps in and works over Cottonbelly’s now injured left knee. Cottonbelly gets out of the ring when Argus and Ophidian on offense. Them along with Shynron quickly dispose of Hijo. They try to do so with Kimberlee but Kimberlee fights out and German suplexes Shynron! She tries a German suplex on Kingston. He instead chops her down, but Kimberlee gets right back up! A second chop has the same result. She fights back with her own barrage of chops. She throws some kicks to the head and successfully pulls off the German suplex. The Snake Pit stop the pinfall. Shynron gets a two count with a standing shooting star press on Hijo. Ophidian clears the ring. He headstands in the corner to distract Kimberlee, allowing Shynron to dropkick her from behind. Shynron lands a coast-to-coast dropkick while Ophidian drops out of the headstand into double knees to the chest. Argus covers, yet Kimberlee kicks out! Cottonbelly sends Argus and Ophidian out. He airplane spins Shynron. When he’s dizzy, Los Ice Creams assist Kimberlee into a huracanrana! Shynron kicks out just in the nick of time. Crown & Court are sent out and Argus and Ophidian sucide dive after them. Shynron climbs the support beam and tumbles down into a senton onto a pile of folks! Hijo gives Kingston a fanny pinch back in the ring. Kingston rocks him with a Backfist to the Future. Shynron then does a headstand off of Kingston’s shoulders into a 450 splash for the pin at 20:44. This was all action. As expected, Kimberlee and Shynron stole the show in front of an audience who are familiar with them. It’s been really interesting seeing Crown & Court’s growth since the Challenge began. The ending stretch was so good and the crowd was hot the entire time. I had a blast watching this. ***¾

Jervis Cottonbelly asks Kimberlee for a word. He tells Los Ice Creams that they need to take this Challenge more seriously. He says he’s not mad, just disappointed. Kimberlee tells Cottonbelly to “just wait; they’ll all see.” Cottonbelly says he trusts his princess. The Crown & Court team follows her to the back. Am I crazy in thinking they could win King of Trios, or at least go pretty far?

Sidney Bakabella calls Silver Ant’s win over Blaster McMassive at “Sword of Destiny” a fluke, saying he used an illegal choke hold. Bakabella says Blaster McMassive is a tiger, and when Silver Ant sticks his head in his cage, Blaster will bite his head off.

Silver Ant catches him coming off the ropes with a guillotine choke. When McMassive escapes, he hits a low kick and high kick before landing the Angle Slam for two. Silver Ant misses a frog splash. McMassive charges but gets taken down with a German suplex. The frog splash connects for two. Silver Ant immediately glocks on the triangle choke. McMassive puts his foot on the ropes to escape. He gives Silver Ant the Black Hole Slam and a Liger bomb for the pin at 10:48. This did not have the same spark as their initial encounter. McMassive looked to be moving slowly and it was hard to get into after the messed up tiger feint kick/boot spot. The action was good after, but the abrupt finish didn’t do much favors for anybody. **½

Kevin Condron comes to the ring with “Juke Joint” Lucas Calhoun and The Lithuanian Snow Troll behind him. Condron points out that the Troll has Missile Assault Ant’s backpack on. Condron reveals that Missile used to be a member of Condor Security, the group who shut down in CHIKARA in 2013. He also reveals that at the order of Deucalion, they were on a military excursion in Zimbabwe. They found a notebook in Missile’s backpack, which Condron begins to read. Angry, Missile Assault Ant comes to the ring looking to attack Condron and takes his notebook back. Calhoun and Troll fight him off and hold him back so that he cannot attack Condron. Condron tells us that Missile Assault Ant blew up a school bus in Zimbabwe full of children. He says Missile Assault Ant has literally been carrying around the weight of that action in his backpack and wants him to admit it right now. After taking some more verbal abuse from Condron, Missile Assault Ant screams YES as a form of admission. Condron instructs Calhoun and Troll to let him go. Condron tells Missile that it wasn’t his fault. He was following orders, and he doesn’t have to do that anymore. He tells Missile to take all that weight off, stating he knows what he has to do. He reminds Missile what unmasking did for Calhoun.. Missile then takes off his mask, symbolizing his liberation. He is now known as Missile Assault Man.

Fire Ant moonsault presses into a tornado DDT on Taylor. The Yahtzee Kick follows. Taylor counters the Beach Break with a Razor’s Edge into the corner. The Awful Waffle gives him the pin at 14:01. Rermington and Gulak really looked awesome when they were in the ring, and Worker Ant looked more like a dominant powerhouse than usual. Fire Ant and Taylor really are destined to fight forever, and while them wrestling each other is always good, it was the same as it’s always been. Still, this was action packed and really fun. ***½

Hallowicked has studied Dasher Hatfield to prepare for this match, and he believes they are cut from the same cloth. He says Hatfield is a noble fighter, but wonders if he will stick to his nobility with the title on the line. Hallowicked thinks he knows Hatfield better than Hatfield knows himself.

Grand Championship
Hallowicked vs. Dasher Hatfield {T}

Hallowicked has been champion since 4.6.2015 and this is his third defense. Frightmare is in his corner. This is Hatfield’s second opportunity at the title, last challenging in June 2012 against Eddie Kingston. The competitors fight for control on the mat. Hallowicked grabs a wristlock which Hatfield breaks using the ropes. Hatfield grabs a courting hold, which Hallowicked turns into a crosshook armdrag by running the corner. Hatfield and Hallowicked pick up the pace as they each go for multiple pin attempts. Hallowicked knees Hatfield in the stomach thrice. Hatfield avoids a backdrop and spanks Hallowicked. Hallowicked angrily shoves him away. Hatfield responds in kind and armdrags the charging Hallowicked thrice. He brings him down in a mouse trap pin for two. Hallowicked takes a powder. Hatfield baseball slides him and follows up with a suicide dive. Hatfield tries a slingshot Oklahoma Roll. Hallowicked rolls through and picks up Hatfield for Go 2 Sleepy Hollow. He centers his attack on Hatfield’s midsection, driving his shoulder into Hatfield’s stomach multiple times in the corner. He gives him a gutbuster for a one count. Hatfield musters a small flurry of strikes, but Go 2 Sleepy Hollow stops him. He goes back to driving his shoulder into Hatfield’s stomach. Hatfield tries a quick roll-up to no avail. Hallowicked headbutts him in the stomach, as well as delivering a knee strike. He kicks Hatfield in the stomach when Hatfield goes to attack him against the ropes. Hallowicked applies a bear hug. He tries a yakuza kick. Hatfield blocks it and gives Hallowicked the Cyclone neckbreaker. He tries running the ropes in a courting hold. Hallowicked cuts him off, but Hatfield still comes off the top with an armdrag. He launches Hallowicked in an exploder suplex but only gets a two count. Hallowicked comes down and drops Hatfield with the Rydeen Bomb for two. He tries a step-up Frankensteiner. Hatfield gets out of the way and belly-to-back suplexes Hallowicked. Hatfield throws some of his own punches at Hallowicked’s mid-section. Hallowicked tries Go 2 Sleepy Hollow. Hatfield blocks and successfully pulls off the Jackhammer. Hallowicked kicks out. Hatfield looks to gain some momentum hopping off the middle rope. However, Hallowicked closes the distance, cracking him with a step-up Frankensteiner. Bryce notices Frightmare fumbling with the Grand Championship. He picks up the belt and Hallowicked whips Hatfield into Bryce! Hatfield picks up the belt, contemplating using it, with Hallowicked egging him on. Hatfield throws down the title and drives Hallowicked into the corner. He sets up Hallowicked on the top rope for the Grand Slam. He hits it and pulls Bryce over to make the count. Hallowicked kicks out just in time. Hatfield looks for the CHIKARA Special. Hallowicked counters with a schoolboy. He locks on the CHIKARA Special himself. Hatfield taps out at 14:22. While I appreciate Hallowicked focusing on Hatfield’s mid-section the entire match, I don’t like the Go 2 Sleepy Hollow being transitioned from a finisher into a regular offensive maneuver. The ref bump seemed unnecessary to, as I don’t see why would we question Hatfield’s ability to play by the rules. It’s not as if he has a history of cheating in big matches. Also, where was Mr. Touchdown to neutralize Frightmare? Last show he’s the big Dasher’s Dugout cheerleader and just a day later he couldn’t be bothered to be there for a family member in a title match? The action was good and they had some good, believable nearfalls with Hatfield, but I was letdown by the match overall, especially when some minor changes could have made it better. ***
