Clutch of Doom

Easton, PA – 2.20.2011

Commentary is provided by Bryce Remsburg, Steve “The Turtle” Weiner, Wink Vavasseur, Gavin Loudspeaker, Leonard F. Chikarason, Mike Quackenbush, Eddie Kingston, and UltraMantis Black.

Gavin Loudspeaker sings a song to open the show. Scheduled for the show was a singles match between Max Boyer and Eddie Kingston. However, Boyer broke his nose last night and is unable to compete. I haven’t a clue how that happens in a four second match, but I digress. So instead, we get this impromptu contest between Mike Quackenbush and Green Ant.

Mike Quackenbush vs. Green Ant {C}

Quack breaks a waistlock by twisting on Green Ant’s arm. Quack monkey flips Green Ant while clutching his hands. Green Ant rolls into a chancery with his legs wrapped around Quack’s mid-section. Quack applies a modified bow and arrow. Green Ant puts on a headlock. Quack rolls him into a pin for two. Quack rolls into a Skayde schoolboy for two. Green Ant tries a couple pins of his own. Quack traps Green Ant in a modified figure four with a butterfly stretch. Quack seat belt pins Green Ant for two. Green Ant applies a courting hold. Quack turns it into a grapevine submission. Green Ant goes for a modified triangle choke. Quack reverses into a grapevine stretch. Green Ant goes for the Cloverleaf. Quack rolls through but Green Ant catches him with an ankle lock. Quack escapes and sits down on a sharpshooter. Green Ant taps out at 6:04. As it was with their impromptu match back in June of last year, this was a nice display of mat work from both guys. It’s something you don’t see every show, and I appreciate that. **1/4

Ophidian is backstage. He recognizes that his opponent for the night, Icarus, is not pleased that The Osirian Portal defeated F.I.S.T. at the season opener. Ophidian says he’s already to put in some work and will prove himself again tonight at Icarus’ expense.

Ophidian {OP} vs. Icarus {F}

Derek Sabato, the BDK official, is the referee for this match. They explain that since Dieter Von Steigerwalt isn’t the Director of Fun anymore, his matches are assigned like a regular referee. Icarus uses Sabato to attempt hypnosis on Ophidian. It doesn’t work. Ophidian then tries it and Sabato counts him in the corner. Icarus boots and suplexes Ophidian for one. Icarus legdrops Ophidian for one. Ophidian tries a Gedo Clutch for two. He then applies a legged full nelson. Icarus escapes and dropkicks Ophidian in a Tree of Woe. Ophidian crucifix pins Icarus for two. He then turns into a modified Anaconda Vice. Icarus forearms Ophidian in the face and chokes him on the middle rope. Icarus suplexes Ophidian and applies a Dragon Sleeper. Ophidian sweeps Icarus’ legs. He headstands into a headbutt for two. Icarus hits a single leg dropkick. Ophidian comes back with a flying boot. Ophidian sends Icarus to the floor with a spinwheel kick and follows out with a twisting tope. Icarus comes back in with a blcokbuster. He hits the EVO for two. Icarus takes Ophidian’s sash from around his waist. Icarus chokes Ophidian right in front of Sabato. Ophidian’s arm drops once and Sabato calls for the bell at 8:56. Icarus goes undefeated this weekend, presumably to make a case for getting a shot at the impending singles title that CHIKARA will introduce soon. He certainly looked better against Ophidian than he did Greg Iron, but not by much. **1/4

Dasher Hatfield {T} & Sugar Dunkerton {T} vs. Vin Gerard {U} & STIGMA {U}

Gerard is wearing a Throwbacks jersey which upsets Dunkerton and Hatfield. Gerard says he’ll return the jersey if they vote for him to be in the title tournament. Hatfield agrees and shakes Gerard’s hand. We then see he was crossing his fingers behind his back. Hatfield places Gerard in a tree of woe. He “runs the bases” but STIGMA blocks him from making a baseball slide. Dunkerton and Hatfield knock him down with a tandem shoulder block. They then each baseball slide Gerard. Hatfield baseball slides Gerard on the floor. Dunkerton and STIGMA exchange chops. Dunkerton hits a knee lift and a dropkick. Dunkerton blocks a boot from Gerard and drops him on his back. Dunkerton applies a surfboard stretch on the mat. Hatfield baseball slides Gerard. Gerard goes to the floor where he punches Hatfield in the stomach. STIGMA and Dunkerton each hit some forearms. STIGMA throws Dunkerton into the corner and takes him over with a German suplex. Out come Shane Matthews and Scott “Jagged” Parker. STIGMA Finlay Rolls Dunkerton and Gerard follows up with a senton. 3.0. does their own commentary, reminding The UnStable of when they lost to them last night. STIGMA chases Mathews on the floor but doesn’t catch him. Hatfield gives Gerard a variety of strikes. STIGMA knocks Hatfield off the corner and Gerard drags in Dunkerton. STIGMA flapjacks him and Gerard kicks him in the face. Jagged and Parker pretend to fall asleep on the floor. STIGMA chases after them again. Hatfield slingshots into an Oklahoma Roll to pin Gerard at 7:11. A decent match while it lasted, but with the focus being elsewhere it hurt the match quality. The story is good, but I’d like to see a rematch with no interference because I feel like these teams had something good going. **1/2

3.0. are backstage, blinded by the light in the promo center. 3.0. reminds us that they were the first team to score a pinfall victory over the BDK during their title reign. They promise to get three points and a title shot once again tonight.

Elimination Match
Amasis {OP} & Hieracon {OP} vs. Scott “Jagged” Parker {3.0} & Shane Matthews {3.0} vs. Delirious {BDK} & Daizee Haze {BDK} vs. El Hijo del Ice Cream {IC} & Ice Cream Jr. {IC}

Hiearcon blocks a German suplex. Delirious trips Hieracon and holds him for Haze. Hieracon knocks Delirious off the apron and Haze rolls him up for two. The Portal double team Haze. Hieracon hits a standing shooting star press for two. Amasis hits a rolling forearm on Delirious to pick up the victory at 15:08. Really good stuff from all three teams, especially The Portal. Delirious and Haze are a really underrated tandem in the BDK, and I’d like to see more of that team in the future. I’m also curious as to where the 3.0. and UnStable storyline will lead to. ***1/4

A video recap of Madison Eagles vs. Daizee haze is shown. Eagles came from Australia in search of female competition. She lost to Haze, and will now look for redemption in her match with Sara Del Rey tonight.

This was a very engaging match, with the great wrestling you have come to expect from both women. The crowd responded really well and were genuinely surprised and pleased with Eagles’ victory. ***

Sara refuses to shake Eagles’ hand afterwards. We then go to a recap from The Batiri vs. Incoherence and UltraMantis Black vs. Sinn “Kizarny” Bodhi, both from “Chaos in the Sea of Lost Souls”. Mantis challenged the Batiri to a Trios match afterwards. That trios match is happening next.

UltraMantis Black, Hallowicked {I}, & Frightmare {I} vs. Obariyon {B}, Kodama {B}, & Kobald {B}

A pier six brawl breaks down before the bell. Referee Nick Papagiorgio breaks them out by threatening a disqualification. Kodama and Mantis officially start off. Mantis backs Kodama to the corner. Obairyon double stomps him and Kodama gives him a cannonball stomp. Mantis launches Hallowicked onto Kobald. Mantis baseball slides out. Kodama hot shots Frightmare. Obariyon spikes him with the Flying DDT for the pin at 14:25. What a fun trios match this was. This was Kobald’s first official match and he fit in with The Batiri like a glove. The prospect of The Spectral Envoy (that’s Mantis, Hallowicked, and Frightmare’s new team name) as a permanent trio excites me if this match is any indication of what they can do. I like the Batiri taking out all three members of the opposing team as opposed to concentrating on one guy; it’s different and makes you think that they’re preparing to face The Envoy again in the future. ***1/2

Tim Donst is backstage. He says 2010 was a good year for him since he held the Young Lions Cup and went to Japan. Donst says 2011 was supposed to be good to, but Jigsaw defeated him right off the bat at the season opener. He says Jigsaw took his pride which wasn’t helped when he lost to Max Boyer last night in four seconds. Donst says tonight he takes back his pride and will take Jigsaw’s with him as well.

Derek Sabato is the official for this match. Donst rolls up Jigsaw twice right away. Jigsaw superkicks Donst and hits a brainbuster. Donst rolls to the floor. Jigsaw suicide dives onto him. Donst drops him with an STO. He then hits two Gator Rolls for the pin at 2:00. You can pretty much take this for face value; Donst and Sabato screw Jigsaw in order for Donst to regain the credibility he lost last night. N/R

Jigsaw goes for a superkick as Donst holds Jigsaw’s tag team title. Donst bails and leaves the belt behind. Jigsaw says he is going to kill Sabato as he leaves.

He nails an antzuigiri and heads up top. Jakob Hammermeier trips Fire Ant on the top rope. This brings out Eddie Kingston who backfists Jakob. Fire Ant gives Claudio a crossbody for the pin at 13:36. This was actually a lot better than I expected. The match was hot and heavy from the onset and kept the crowd in the palm of their hands for its entirety. The Colony are just so good and Claudio is the king of making guys look even better. Tursas may have looked his best here as well. I was really taken aback by just how good this match was. Major kudos to all four guys. ***1/2

Claudio is beside himself. He comes to the floor and Kingston begins beating on him. Their fight comes back into the ring. The locker room empties trying to separate Kingston and Claudio from each other. They successfully separate them from each other. Claudio then jumps onto the pile of wrestlers going for Claudio again. They get separated once more. Director of Fun Wink Vavasseur comes into the ring. He asks what the issue is, clearly clueless as to their history. Claudio explains that fifteen months ago, he beat Kingston in a Respect Match and Kingston has yet to give him the Respect he earned. Kingston fires back that Wink needs to leave this issue between the two of them. Kingston says he will never respect Claudio and calls him a coward. Claudio tells Wink that he will have a riot on every CHIKARA show until Kingston says he respects him. Wink says that he will book a match between them on the next show. Claudio turns that down, saying he wants his match with Kingston the next night in Brooklyn so he can embarrass Kingston in front of his family and friends. Claudio then jumps Kingston and once again they need to be separated. Once the BDK and Claudio are gone, Kingston tells the CHIKARA locker room to go to the back. Kingston takes a seat in the middle of the ring. Kingston talks about how CHIKARA came from small beginnings, but the workhorses of CHIKARA turned it into a major promotion because of their belief in the company. Kingston says Claudio wasn’t around in the rough times and that he won’t allow him to destroy what Kingston helped build. He tells Claudio that if he wants his respect, he has to pry it from his dead hands and that something has got to give in Brooklyn. Kingston says he has more respect for the CHIKARA symbol than Claudio has for his own life. Kingston then leaves with the crowd chanting his name.

Bonus Match

Solid stuff, but you really didn’t get enough of this match to get a sense of what was going on or just how much these guys improved by going to Japan. From what I could tell, it was solid stuff. **
