A World Of Comforting Illusions

February 28th, 2010 – Pottsville, PA

Continuing the trend of “new CHIKARA venues that look like old ones”, tonight’s Pottsville arena looks very similar to the old Pittston CHIKARA arena.

Commentary is provided by Bryce Remsburg, Colin Delaney, Icarus, and Gavin Loudspeaker.

Dasher Hatfield {T} & Sugar Dunkerton {T} vs. Vin Gerard {U} & STIGMA {U}

Hatfield powers STIGMA to the corner. Hatfield ducks a chop and gives STIGMA a pair of armdrags. Hatfield sends STIGMA to the floor and follows with a pescado. Dunkerton shoulder tackles Gerard down and runs over his back before dropping on him with a senton for two. The Throwbacks knock Gerard down with some double elbows. Dunkerton gives him a bulldog. Hatfield hip tosses STIGMA. Gerard attacks Dunkerton. STIGMA spears Dunkerton, and Gerard gives Hatfield an STO to turn the tide. Hatfield is bullied by The UnStable until Hatfield reverses a tornado DDT with a fisherman’s suplex. Dunkerton and STIGMA tag in. Dunkerton hits a series of strikes to knock STIGMA down. Gerard cuts off Dunkerton, but Dunkerton drops him with a half-nelson suplex for two. STIGMA gives Dunkerton a German suplex and attacks Hatfield as he comes in the ring. Hatfield applies a sleeper and STIGMA uses the corner to fight him off. Dunkerton cuts Gerard off the top rope, and Hatfield victory rolls STIGMA for the pin at 8:00. Pretty disappointing considering how great both teams were the previous night before. The opening stuff was a bit off, the heat segment was good, and the ending showed promise but ended kind of abruptly. Guess you can’t win em’ all. **

Brodie Lee says tonight is the end of Green Ant. Lee says the last time they were in the ring, it was only for 5 seconds, and he pinned Green Ant. Brodie plans to do the same tonight.

Green Ant {C} vs. Brodie Lee

Lee pushes Green Ant down. Lee hits on a girl outside, and Green Ant hits a clothesline off the apron. In the ring, Green Ant hits a splash on Lee and an elbow. Green Ant gives Lee some strikes, but Lee knocks him down with a rolling throat thrust for two. Lee blasts Green Ant with a forearm and tosses him to the floor. Green Ant gets whipped to the corner and Lee follows through with a two-handed chop across the chest. Lee chokes Green Ant with his boot. Lee drops Green Ant with a pump-handle toss for two. Green Ant fires up as Lee lays in some headbutts. Green Ant comes back with some headbutts of his owns. Green Ant hops out of the corner with a flying headbutt. Green Ant ducks the big boot and sunset flips Lee for two. Lee tries the Bossman slam and Green Ant rolls him up for two. Green Ant jumps on Lee’s back with a sleeper hold while laying in headbutts. Green Ant hits the ropes, and Lee boots him for two. Lee drops Green Ant with the Running Liger Bomb for the pin at 4:13. This was a lot of fun for the time it was given. Green Ant has been impressing me, and Brodie Lee is severely underrated. With more time the rating could’ve been higher. *1/2

Hallowicked {I} & Frightmare {I} vs. Sara Del Rey {BDK} & Daizee Haze {BDK}

Frightmare lands a jaw breaker and a cartwheel double-kick to the back of Sara’s head. Halloiwcked again gets tagged in and sends Haze to the corner. He mows Sara down with two clotheslines. Haze chokes Wicked, and Wicked snapmares her over. Haze slaps Wicked. Wicked gives Haze a HYUUUGE Rydeen Bomb, and Frightmare follows up with a kneecolepsy for two. Sara breaks the pin, and Wicked gives her a big boot for two. Haze low bridges the ropes to send Wicked to the floor. Sara drops Frightmare over and over with piledrivers, so the referee calls for the bell, disqualifying the BDK at 9:49 for excesivo de castigo. This means Incoherence has earned their first point, and Sara and Daizee are back down to zero. A good way for this match to end, as Sara and Daizee continue to show they’re tag team dominance. Incoherence as usual delivered. **1/2

The Badd Boys are playing pool. They say just like in pool, you got to stay one step ahead. They say they see the faces of their opponents on the balls while they shoot them. They say wrestling isn’t a game, and when you step in the ring it gets real bad. Chad almost says “Boo Ya”. Hmm…

The Badd’s give Uno Demolition Decapatation, but Dos gives Chad a frog splash for the pin at 15:21 as Ares prevents Brad from making the save. The Badd Boyz are eliminated.

Claudio immediately enters and disposes of Dos. The Brüderschaft focus on Uno, and Uno is able to fend them off, sending Ares to the floor. Claudio is unaffected by a barrage of Uno’s strikes. Ares grabs Uno’s foot, and Claudio mows him down with a clothesline. Ares and Claudio isolate Uno. Dos makes a save on a double team, but Ares brings him outside and rams him back first multiple times into the ring frame. The BDK go back to work on Uno. Uno blocks a Ricola Bomb. Claudio gives Uno a European Uppercut and locks on the Inverted CHIKARA Special. Uno taps at 20:52, giving Claudio and Ares the victory and the win. Claudio and Ares now have three points; they will challenge The Colony for the Campeones de Parejas on March 20th in Easton, PA. I’ve seen a lot better from every team in this match, although this was still pretty good. Not a heck of a lot happened, so I don’t have much more to say than that. I am looking forward to the Claudio/Ares vs. Colony match though. ***

Eddie Kingston says tonight is a new building, old enemy; Gran Akuma. Kingston says he’s happy they’re having this match because they’re both going to hit hard and test each other. Kingston says every morning he loses feeling in his arm because Akuma dropped him on his head years ago. He says tonight will be a war and he wants Claudio to watch the match. He says if he’ll hurt Akuma, a guy he likes as much as he’s going to, imagine what he’d do to a guy like Claudio who he doesn’t like.

Akuma drops Kingston with a Back Drop Driver and he gets up. Kingston gives Akuma another and he gets up. Akuma gives Kingston a rolling clothesline, and both men are now down as the effects of their moves hit them. Akuma kicks away at Kingston. Kingston fires up and peppers Akuma with slaps. Akuma ducks a backfist and drops Kingston with a Samoan drop. Akuma tires for the Yoshi Tonic, and Kingston flips him over into a powerbomb. Akuma kicks out of a Sliding D. Kingston hits a second Sliding D to get the win at 9:27. These guys sure did hit hard, but definitely left something to be desired. The crowd sucked too, which was really unfortunate. I think with a little more time and in front of a different crowd, this would’ve been much more significant. ***1/4

Kingston yells out Claudio’s name and says that they aren’t done.

Lince Dorado, Pinkie Sanchez, Tim Donst, and Tursas are backstage. Dorado says Jigsaw and Helios tossed him aside. Donst says Dorado is better than that and that his break-up with the Future Is Now was the best thing that ever happened to him. Donst says Lince will show his former friends why break-up hurts.

This was another fantastic Atomico which is now the story of this weekend. I loved the story they told, with Tursas being the guy who turned the favor back in the BDK’s favor whenever a fresh man entered. Then the other members would do the dirty work. Exceptional story telling with great wrestling made for a real fun match that the fans ate up. ***1/2

The Brüderschaft clean house on the Tecnicos and are left standing tall in the ring. They then bully Jigsaw on the floor until referee Nick Papagorgio forces them to stop.

The Colony retain the Campeones de Parejas, and UltraMantis continues to be title-less in CHIKARA.

As it was, this was a good match. Both teams made the most out of the first fall, as of course the second fall was a total angle in the end. I heard some great/funny stuff happened with UltraMantis Black and Delirious outside the area outside the show, but sadly Smart Mark Video didn’t include any footage (probably because they didn’t take any). But I’ll give each team credit for what the conditions they were given. ***
