Easton, PA – 5.23.2009

Commentary is provided by Mike Quackenbush, Louden Noxious, Bryce Remsburg, Leonard F. Chikarason, Eddie Kingston, and UltraMantis Black.

Louden Noxious opens the show with a CHIKARA birthday song, going over the events of the past year.

2.0 are in the back. Shane Matthews is sick and tired of them being nothing but a bunch of losers. Jagged calls shenanigans on whomever said “it is better to have loved and lost than to never to have loved at all.” Jagged recalls how much they nurtured the one point they earned last month, only for it to fly away like a bird the next night. They plan to get that one point again from the same team they did last month, Incoherence, and once again get on the track to the Promised Land.

Hallowicked {I} & Frightmare {I} vs. Jagged {2.0} & Shane Matthews {2.0}

This is a rematch from “Behind the 8 Ball.” Hallowicked maneuvers out of Jagged’s side headlock and puts on one of his own. Jagged avoids a corner attack but falls short on a crossbody attempt. Incoherence give him the Sidewinder for two. Jagged knees Frightmare in the stomach and tags in Matthews. Matthews breaks a lock-up in the corner. Frightmare armdrags him to the corner and sends him to the corner with a step-up Frankensteiner. Matthews blindsides Frightmare in the corner with a closed fist while Bryce Remsburg is between them. Frightmare is beaten down by 2.0 until he takes down Matthews with a tornado DDT. Hallowicked cleans house with clotheslines and back elbows. Frightmare dives off the top onto Matthews on the floor. Jagged schoolboys Hallowicked for two. He leg lariats Hallowicked and Samoan Drops Frightmare. Matthews powerbombs Frightmare for two. Hallowicked sends Jagged out with a step-up Frankensteiner. He hits Go 2 Sleepy Hollow on Matthews. Frightmare follows up with Kneecolepsy for two. Matthews shoves Frightmare to the corner as Jagged comes off the top with a knee drop to Hallowicked. Jagged pops Frightmare into a spear from Matthews. Matthews places Frightmare on his shoulders. Hallowicked yakuza kicks Matthews. Frightmare takes Jagged off the top rope with a Frankensteiner, sending him into a Rydeen Bomb from Hallowicked for the pin at 9:42. This was about on par from last month, though a clean victory made it more satisfying overall. I like the more aggressive 2.0. **¼

Grizzly Redwood says Hydra is going to find out just how big he is tonight.

Hydra nails some clotheslines. Redwood chop blocks his leg out. Hydra Gores Redwood for two. He puts on the Hydralock. Redwood backs him to the corner to break it. His chops have no effect. Hydra unloads his own chops. Hydra misses a corner splash. Redwood rolls him up and gets his feet on the ropes for the pin at 6:33. This was shockingly more serious and way better than I anticipated. Redwood makes for a fantastic Rudo and Hydra is universally beloved, so the dynamic was a lot of fun. They smartly kept it short, but the wrestling was better than your typical Hydra bout. *½

Create-A-Wrestler vs. Eddie Kingston {R}

Wrestler side steps an attack from Kingston and dropkicks him twice. Kingston sends Wrestler to the floor with some strikes. Wrestler puts on his Ultimo Breakfast mask as Kingston tosses him back into the ring. Wrestler gives him a toaster assisted headbutt. He pescado’s after Kingston to the floor. He chops Wrestler in multiple corners, choking him in the last. Kingston snapmares him into a chinlock. He chokes Wrestler in the corner before chopping him again. Wrestler comes back with a mule kick. Kingston German suplexes him for two. He yakuza kicks him. Wrestler mule kicks Kingston as he charges, then comes off the second rope with a knee strike to the face. He intercepts Kingston’s strikes and spears him for two. The Russian Sickle sends Kingston to the floor. Wrestler follows with a tope con hilo. In the ring he hits a release Northern Lights suplex for two. Kingston delivers a uranage suplex and a shotgun lariat for two. Wrestler blocks the Backfist. He goes for a powerbomb. Kingston counters with a Saito suplex. He blasts Wrestler with the Backfist to the Future for the pin at 8:43. This was a fun brawl, one that made Wrestler look a lot stronger than he typically does. His upcoming persona would by far see his biggest success, but Create-A-Wrestler’s matches post Ultimo Breakfast, despite him scoring no victories, were also a relatively strong body of work for him. **½

Jigsaw comes in with a high crossbody to Taylor and Akuma. He enzuigiri’s Taylor after knocking Icarus off the apron. He gets caught in Akuma’s arms. Jigsaw swings around to kick Taylor, then headscissors Akuma out. Helios hits a twisting corkscrew dive onto Akuma and Taylor. Dorado cuts off Icarus’ dive with a springboard seated senton. Helios hits a cannonball senton in the corner on Icarus. Jigsaw double stomps Akuma. Dorado hits the Lynxsault on Taylor for two. Taylor tosses Dorado out. Helios pitches Akuma to the floor. Another superkick takes him down. He goes for the Jig N’ Tonic. Taylor gives him Sole Food into Akuma’s Yoshi Tonic, giving F.I.S.T. the win at 10:47. This was a very strong win for F.I.S.T. leading into their big match with the Colony tomorrow, and it makes two months in a row where Akuma pinned Jigsaw. It was a very fun, action packed trios match and everyone looked smooth. ***¼

UltraMantis Black and Crossbones are in the back with Delirious, who now dons the black, silver and white of the Order of the Neo-Solar Temple. Mantis says he has abducted Delirious (via the Eye of Tyr) for the purpose of revenge on Hallowicked who abandoned him so many years ago. Hallowicked abandoned their mission in the Dark Breed for material gain and the admiration of the fans. Mantis says that legend has it that the Eye must be given away once it is used, for bad omens and ill will may befall those who hold onto it. Although Mantis has an unwavering belief in the supernatural, he does not believe in legends, myths, and fables. He may just hold the power of the Eye of Tyr for himself. With Delirious by his side, Mantis believes the Order are unstoppable.

Delirious responds with a chinbreaker and a release German suplex. Once again he drives his elbow into Cannon’s mid-section. Cannon reverses an Irish whip, kicking Delirious in the stomach. He drives him into the mat with a bulldog. Cannon dropkicks Delirious in the chest. Delirious fights off a Saito suplex. Cannon blasts him with a haymaker. Total Anarchy gets him a two count. He misses a second rope moonsault. Delirious dropkicks him to the corner. He hits the Panic Attack twice. Cannon uppercuts Delirious after a pair of forearms. He calls for a brainbuster. Delirious slides out. He elbows Cannon and puts on the Cobra Clutch. He then drops him with the Praying Mantis Bomb for the pin at 7:21. Delirious’ new character is very intriguing. He had a great, hard hitting re-debut against Cannon who should be more regular in CHIKARA. Fun stuff. **¾

Tim Donst says he hasn’t been this excited in a long time, perhaps since December when he had the chance to win a main event match of a season finale. That dream was taken away by STIGMA. Tonight is all about Donst giving it all he has and laying it on the line. He used to look up to STIGMA, but after tonight, when Donst lays him up, STIGMA will be looking up to him.

Tim Donst {SD} vs. STIGMA {U}

Donst comes out in a Shane Storm shirt while STIGMA has Donst’s headgear he stole months ago. STIGMA tries charging Donst, but Donst drops down the top rope to send him to the floor. Donst grabs the ropes to break a pin attempt. STIGMA forearms him to the apron. Donst wants to suplex STIGMA to the floor but his hurt back won’t allow it. Donst does however give STIGMA an STO on the ring apron. They both get back into the ring just before the count of twenty. They trade chops on their knees and as they get to their feet. STIGMA claws Donst’s face and brings him to the corner. He tries lifting Donst for a super Stigmata. Donst fights back. He wants a super butterfly suplex. When STIGMA resists, Donst brings him down with a Frankensteiner. He locks STIGMA in the CHIKARA Special! STIGMA taps out at 10:14. The action was solid, the story was good, and the finish was exceptional. STIGMA became a traitor by selling out the reversal to the CHIKARA Special, so it’s only appropriate that he would succomb to it in his and Donst’s final encounter. It wasn’t the most exciting bout, but for CHIKARA fans it was fun to watch this feud build and the payoff was satisfying. **½

This could have stood to lose a few minutes but it was solid nonetheless. It was a nice win for the Colony heading into their match tomorrow. **¾

The Super Smash Bros. head to the back while the Colony are still in the ring. Chuck Taylor runs out in a Fire Ant shirt and Soldier Ant mask and kicks Fire Ant in the groin. Soldier Ant turns to confront Taylor, only for Icarus to sneak in and drop him with the Wings of Icarus. F.I.S.T. bail before The Colony can retaliate.

He ducks Swiss Chin Music and sunset flips Claudio for two. Claudio hits Swiss Chin Music for two. STIGMA distracts Claudio. Gerard jackknife pins Claudio while STIGMA holds Gerard’s legs, getting him the pin at 12:34. A good, competitive match marred by a crummy finish. Gerard defeating Claudio could have come off as a huge upset and the shot in the arm he needed, but instead it was a lucky, cheap, meaningless win. Looking back, it’s easy to see why Gerard went from the most popular, most over Rudo in CHIKARA to somewhat of a joke. **¾

Claudio asks Louden Noxious to sing his theme music with him. When Louden messes it up, he gets the crowd to sing it with him. Claudio trips over the ring steps as he heads to the back, but uppercuts them as revenge.
