Mike Quackenbush vs. Bryan Danielson

This is a rematch from “Death Before Dishonor V, Night 2.” Quackenbush brings Danielson to the mat in a wristlock. Danielson uses his neck strength to reverse it. Quackenbush applies a courting hold. Danielson backs him to the ropes to break it. He tries pinning Quackenbush in a double knuckle lock. Quackenbush armdrags him over. Danielson ties up his legs and applies a chinlock. Quackenbush baits him out of it into another wristlock. Danielson tris the same tactic. Instead, he rolls Quackenbush up into a courting hold. Quackenbush backs Danielson to the corner and we get a clean break. Danielson lands on his feet out of a leapfrog. He leapfrogs Quackenbush but then gets sent to the floor. Danielson grabs his knee in pain. Quackenbush follows with a tope con hilo. Quackenbush targets Danielson’s bad knee back in the ring. Danielson goes for a German suplex but Quackenbush grabs the ropes. Danielson kicks Quackenbush’s arm away out of a wristlock. Danielson begins wearing down Quackenbush’s arms, specifically his left. He puts Quackenbush in the Romero Special. Danielson puts on the crossface chickenwing. Quackenbush gets the ropes. Quackenbush kicks at Danielson’s leg. He uses the ropes to pull off a Frankensteiner. He windmill chops Danielson in the corner. Danielson charges and Quackenbush kicks his bad leg out. Quackenbush brings him off the top with a Frankensteiner for two. Danielson escapes the Black Tornado Slam. Quackenbush gets two with a prawn hold. He goes for Quackendriver III. Danielson brings him down into Cattle Mutilation. Quackenbush gets to his feet. He kicks Danielson’s knee and palm strikes him. Quackendriver III gets him a two count. He puts on the Lightning Lock Omega. Danielson gets the ropes. Danielson avoids a Swanton and applies a cross armbreaker. Quackenbush gets the ropes. They trade forearms. Quackenbush superkicks and palm strikes Danielson before trying the Quackendriver III again, Danielson small packages him for the pin at 16:39. The wrestling and psychology were on point, but it lacked heart. There wasn’t much in the way of emotion or importance. I enjoyed watching it, but it’s far from the best singles match these two have had. ***
