Frightmare vs. Luis Diamante

Joey the Snake and K. Fernandez of Da Latin Crime Syndicate are in Diamante’s corner. Frightmare stops his charge with a drop toe hold. Diamante comes back with a backbreaker. Frightmare armdrags him and holds onto an armbar. Diamante reverses into a wristlock. Frightmare blocks a clothesline and goes back to the arm. Diamante bails to the floor. He gives Frightmare a backbreaker when he gets back in the ring. Fernandez chokes Frightmare behind the referee’s back. Diamante suplexes him from the apron back into the ring. Frightmare kicks out. He rolls Diamante into a prawn hold for two. Diamante lariats him. Frightmare sends Diamante out with a step-up Frankensteiner. He goes for a tope con hilo and ends up landing on Joey and Fernandez. Dimaante attacks from behind and pitches Frightmare back into the ring. Diamante gives Frightmare a modified Regalplex for two. Diamante misses a clothesline. Frightmare comes off the second rope with a tornado DDT. Kneecolepsy gets him two. Joey distracts Frightmare. This allows Diamante to schoolboy him for the pin at 7:08. They never got out of first gear and didn’t tell much in the way of a story. Fernandez and Joey attack Frightmare after the match just because. *

AIW Tag Team Championship
Eric Ryan & TJ Dynamite (Champions) vs. Fire Ant & Pinkie Sanchez

The champions attack Fire Ant and Sanchez before the bell. Fire Ant London Bridges Ryan and Dynamite. Fire Ant sunset flips Dynamite into a dropkick from Ryan. Ryan kicks out of a schoolboy. He suplexes Fire Ant and gives him a side Russian legsweep for two. He and Dynamite wear down Fire Ant in their half of the ring. Fire Ant maneuvers the champions so Ryan would give Dynamite a stunner. Sanchez tags in and cleans house. He gives both of them the Flying Asshole. As they’re stacked on each other, Sanchez comes off the second rope with a Whoopee Cushion. Sanchez tope con hilo’s onto Dynamite while Fire Ant does the same onto Ryan. Sanchez gets in some kicks on Dyanmite back in the ring. Sanchez sends him back to the floor. Ryan gives Sanchez a fisherman’s buster. Fire Ant hits Ryan with the Heat of the Moment. He Burns Down the House on him as well. Fire Ant comes off the top with a senton splash. He antzuigiri’s Dynamite. Dynamite blocks the Beach Break and drops Fire Ant with a spinebuster. He legdrops Fire Ant. Sanchez gives Dynamite a springboard seated senton for two. Fire Ant takes him over with a fireman’s carry. Sanchez sentons Dynamite multiple times for two. Fire Ant goes to the top rope. Ryan crotches him. Sanchez has Dynamite up on his shoulders. While the referee is helping untie Fire Ant, Ryan throws powder into Sanchez’s eyes. Dynamite rolls him up for the pin at 8:25. This had hot, consistent action, but the lack of time and lame finish really cooled things off. Sanchez and Fire Ant were a fun tandem. **½

Icarus & Gran Akuma vs. Christian Faith & Vincent Nothing

Aaron Bauer is in Faith in Nothing’s corner. Nothing puts Akuma in a wristlock. Akuma trips him and picks his ankle. Nothing rolls out and applies a side headlock. Akuma pops out of it. He kicks at Nothing’s hamstrings. He dodges Nothing’s offense and rolls to the floor. Faith and Icarus tag in. Icarus can’t get the larger Faith up for a German suplex. Faith yanks him over by his hair. He stomps Icarus into the canvas. He and Nothing double Japanese armdrag him into a double chokeslam with tandem kicks to the back. Faith chops Icarus up against the ropes. He and Nothing double hip toss him out of the corner. Icarus cascades up Faith into a DDT. Akuma and Nothing tag back in. Icarus kicks Nothing from the apron and Akuma clotheslines him. He dropkicks Nothing in the back of the head for two. F.I.S.T. isolate Nothing until Icarus misses a frogsplash. Nothing kicks Icarus to the corner and tags in Faith. He boots Icarus into an enzuigiri. He backdrops Icarus, kicking him on the way down. Akuma breaks a pin after Faith suplexes Icarus. He sets Faith on the top rope, bringing him down with a Frankensteiner. Nothing makes the save. He gives Akuma a brainbuster. Icarus gives Nothing a lungblower and a Shiranui. Faith breaks the pin. He Falcon Arrows Icarus onto his knees. Faith in Nothing give Icarus a neckbreaker/powerbomb combo. Akuma breaks their pin. Akuma avoids Nothing’s corner attack. He enzuigiri’s Nothing from the apron as Icarus spears him. Icarus gives Nothing a Death Valley Driver. Akuma follows up with a frogsplash for two. He and Nothing trade kicks. Akuma ends the exchange with a fallaway kick. Nothing releases Akuma out of a German suplex. Akuma fires up and gives Nothing a Northern Lights suplex. Nothing responds with a lariat. Page and Icarus trade strikes and kicks. Faith nails a rolling forearm for two. Icarus wants the Shiranui. Nothing lariats Icarus into Faith’s Saito suplex for the pin at 14:49. Really solid back and forth wrestling. The ending stretch was exciting and fun, and Faith in Nothing truly look like a strong tandem beating F.I.S.T., who really worked hard. Good stuff. ***¼

2009 Gauntlet for the Gold

This match has thirty competitors total. After the first two are introduced, a new wrestler enters every 90 seconds. You eliminate your opponent by throwing them over the top rope and to the floor, just like the Royal Rumble. The winner is the #1 Contender for the Absolute Championship.

This was a step up in quality from your typical Royal Rumble type matches on the Indies, but not quite as good as installments of the Gauntlet in forthcoming years. They managed to build up a couple feuds (Thorne/Hatred and Young Studs vs. Faith in Nothing), but most everyone else (aside from the winner) were fairly innocuous. ***
