Commentary is provided by Bryce Remsburg, Louden Noxious, Larry Sweeney, Leonard F. Chikarason, Eddie Kingston, UltraMantis Black, and Mike Quackenbush.

Icarus says in 2009 there’s already a new trio, The Future is Now, trying to make a name for themselves. He says that name is a false statement. He says all three of them are frauds, which Icarus hates. He says tonight he and Akuma are going to uncover the Future is Now for what they really are.

Lince Dorado {TFN} & Helios {TFN} vs. Icarus {F} & Gran Akuma {F}

Icarus overhand chops Dorado and bails to the floor. Dorado bites Akuma’s hand in a wristlock. Akuma kicks the back of his leg and stretches Dorado out in the Gory Gallows. Dorado flips it into a sunset flip for two. He armdrags Akuma to the ropes. Dorado uses the ropes for a cartwheel armdrag that sends Akuma to the floor. Helios and Dorado dropkick Akuma back to the floor. Dorado headscissors Akuma onto the concrete. Helios Tiger walks up Icarus in the corner, then nails a cannonball senton. Akuma cuts off Helios’ dive by kicking out his legs. Helios headscissors Akuma to the floor. Icarus catches Helios off guard with a spear. Helios is beat down by F.I.S.T. Akuma goes for the Tenchi Crash on Helios. Instead he and Dorado take him over with a tandem Roll of the Dice. Helios drives his knees into Akuma’s chest for two. Dorado blocks Icarus’ Shiranui but gets shoved to the floor. Icarus German suplexes Helios for the pin at 8:30. This was fun, with both teams looking strong. Interesting to see Icarus using a German suplex to get the win; certainly unexpected. A good, energetic match to kick off the show and the season. **¾

Hallowicked {I} & Frightmare {I} vs. Brodie Lee & Grizzly Redwood

Hallowicked rushes in and attacks Lee before the bell. Frightmare sends Redwood out with a step-up Frankensteiner. He then tope con hilo’s onto both Lee and Redwood. Lee gets in some shots to Hallowicked’s throat. Hallowicked super snapmares Redwood. He and Frightmare take Redwood down with multiple armdrags. Lee clotheslines Frightmare from the apron, allowing him and Redwood to take control and isolate the smaller member of Incoherence. Frightmare is able to duck a clothesline from Redwood and tag in Hallowicked. He cleans house with clotheslines. He slams Redwood and gives Lee a step-up enzuigiri. Hallowicked hits Go 2 Sleepy Hollow on Redwood. Lee drags Hallowicked to the floor and jabs him in the throat with a chain. He sends Hallowicked into the steps. Redwood Polish hammers Frightmare. Lee accidentally body blocks Redwood. Frightmare sends Lee to the floor, then victory rolls Redwood for the pin at 6:06. This was aggressive and really heated up the feud between the teams. It made me interested in seeing more matches between them which was the goal all along. **½

Sara Del Rey vs. Daizee Haze

Haze is replacing LuFisto, who was held up at the Canadian border. Haze brings Sara down in a side headlock. Sara puts on a hammerlock. Haze trips Sara and applies a chinlock while locking her leg. Sara puts on a full nelson. Haze tries a series of pin attempts to no avail. Sara gets on a front facelock. Haze gets the ropes. Sara headbutts Haze’s arm as she applies a wristlock. Haze slips out of a slam and tries a Gedo Clutch. Haze armdrags Sara to the corner. She armdrags out of a wheelbarrow position and dropkicks Sara to the floor. Haze misses a crossbody to the floor. Sara drops her throat first across the guardrails. In the ring Sara applies an abdominal stretch while clawing Haze’s stomach. She then stretches out Haze’s leg. Haze puts on her own abdominal stretch. Sara rolls her into a pin attempt to escape. Haze goes for some more pins. Sara stops her with a Koppu Kick. Haze stops Sara’s superplex attempt and comes off the middle rope with a tornado DDT for two. Sara blocks the Heart Punch. Haze schoolgirls Sara for the pin at 8:50. If you like roll-ups and pin attempts, this is the match for you. Otherwise there was not a whole lot going on. ½*

Mantis looks for the Praying Mantis Bomb on Quackenbush. Quackenbush evades it and sends Mantis onto Crossbones shoulders. Quackenbush suicide dives out, knocking both Order members down. Jigsaw gives Mantis the Jig N’ Tonic for the pin at 10:28. Quackenbush and Jigsaw haven’t missed a beat. They look like a well oiled machine and really took it to the Order, who also looked great in their own right during the heat segment. Definitely a strong re-debut for Jigsaw and a nice wrinkle in the Eye of Tyr storyline. ***

STIGMA and Delaney give Cloudy a spike Stigmata for the pin at 13:07. Cheech and Cloudy have such good chemistry with Delaney, and STIGMA played his role in the match well, making for a good back and forth contest. Cheech and Cloudy looked strong as usual and brought out the best in Delaney. The tandem Stigmata looked devastating and strengthens the UnStable as a unit in general, which may be necessary given they ended the last season on a loss. ***

Originally scheduled for tonight was a King of Trios Qualifying match between The Fabulous Three and The Saturday Night Slam Masters (The Super Smash Bros. and Create-A-Wrestler). However, The Super Smash Bros. and Buck Hawke did not make the show after being held up at the Canadian border. Leonard F. Chikarason decides that because of this, neither team will be in King of Trios. This makes Larry Sweeney and Mitch Ryder angry. They will face Los Ice Creams in tag action instead.

El Hijo del Ice Cream {IC} & Ice Cream Jr. {IC} vs. Larry Sweeney {FT} & Mitch Ryder {FT}

He pinches Ryder again. Ryder gives him a hard right hand. Sweeney knocks Jr. off the apron so he and Ryder can work over Hijo. Hijo eventually escapes their grasp by rolling through Ryder’s sunset flip, dropkicking him, then tagging in Jr. Jr. clotheslines and slams Ryder and Sweeney. The Fabulous Two double flapjack Jr. Ryder waterwheel slams Hijo into an elbow from Sweeney. Ryder gives Jr. a piledriver. Sweeney follows up with the 12 Large elbow for the pin at 11:03. Not a bad replacement for what was advertised, though it’s a shame neither team will be apart of Trios. The crowd liked the shtick and the wrestling was solid. **¼

Kingston spins him out into a slam. He hits the Sliding D for two. Delirious hits the Bizarro Driver for two. Kingston throws some elbows before delivering the Backfist to the Future. A Backdrop Driver gets Kingston the win at 11:43. It was fun seeing Delirious in a rare singles match in CHIKARA, and it makes sense that Kingston who was more well versed in singles competition would come out victorious. They had some cool exchanges and made the match fun to watch. It was also a nice precursor for what was to come between their respective factions. ***

Los Campeonatos de Parejas
Amasis {OP} & Ophidian {OP} (Campeones) vs. Fire Ant {C} & Soldier Ant {C}

Since The Colony earned an unprecedented seven points, they got to add some stipulations to the match. Instead of the usual 2 out of 3 falls format, this title bout will only be one fall. Also, Escorpion Egipcio has been banned from ringside.

Amasis stops Soldier Ant from breaking it up. Fire Ant’s arm drops thrice, giving the Portal the win at 18:52. This was excellent. Hot action, lots of drama, and a satisfying finish made for a great tag match. These two teams would go on to have great matches throughout 2009, but this was arguably the best one and set the bar high. ****

Vin Gerard is about to cut a promo in front of the CHIKARA logo, but decides against it. He then says Equinox is not Young Lions Cup material. He’s going to give Jimmy Olsen a reason to wear that mask when all is said and done.

Gerard knees him down on the apron. He goes for a 2k1 Bomb. Olsen kicks him in the groin! Olsen then puts Gerard through the ladder with a Death Valley Driver! Olsen makes his way into the ring and up the ladder. He grabs the medallion at 21:35 to become the new Young Lions Cup champion. Gerard having his hand on the medallion, only to throw it away to do more damage to Olsen was a little unbelievable. Aside from that, this was excellent. Gerard’s leg work was on point, the story was really good, they made the few ladder spots they incorporated count, and there was plenty of drama. It was a perfect way for these two to end their feud and easily Olsen’s best singles match. ****
