Return of the Son of the International Invasion of the International Invaders – Second Stage

Barnesville, PA – 8.20.2006

Commentary is provided by Chris Hero, Larry Sweeney, Bryce Remsburg, Shane Matthews, UltraMantis Black, Hydra (seriously!), Arik Cannon, and Leonard F. Chikarason.

The show stars with F.I.S.T. sitting backstage looking dejected. Icarus also has a towel over his bald head. Chris Hero pulls the towel off his head. He can’t believe they’re sitting around sulking after they lose. Anyways, Hero tells them it doesn’t matter if they lose a match. All wrestlers lose matches, but the great wrestlers of all time are remembered because they are great in their victories. He reminds them that they won last night and did serious damage to their opponents. Hero fires them up by saying they will stop Hallowicked and Delirious from getting a point tonight. He tells them that they are Kings of Wrestling and that they reign supreme.

Fire Ant {C}, Soldier Ant {C} & Ben Sailer vs. Jagged {2.0}, El Hijo Ice Cream {IC} & Ice Cream Jr. {IC}

The injured Shane Matthews is in Jagged’s corner. Sailer is a random Midwest dude. Hijo gets the ropes to break Fire Ant’s hammerlock. Hijo kicks him in the leg and snapmares him into a chinlock. Fire Ant escapes into a double wristlock. Hijo again gets the ropes. Hijo smacks Fire Ant in the back. Fire Ant gives him an overhand chop and a fireman’s carry. He gives him two more fireman’s carry’s, causing Hijo to retreat to the floor. Soldier Ant and Jr. tag in. Soldier Ant salutes after breaking a lock-up in the corner. Jr. does the same, but then kicks Soldier Ant in the stomach. Soldier Ant salutes after giving him an alita. Soldier Ant sends Jr. out with a saluting headscissors. Jagged and Sailer tag in. Sailer puts on a headlock. Jagged shoulder blocks him and gets two with an Oklahoma Roll. Sailer reapplies the headlock. He monkey flips Jagged to the corner, then again out of the corner. Sailer gives him a side Russian leg sweep for two. Jagged rolls out, and Hijo back chops Sailer from behnd. He pinches Sailer in the buttocks. Jagged gives him an atomic drop. Hijo gives Sailer El Asesino off of Jr.’s knee. Sailer gets worn down some more in the Rudo corner. He almost escapes when Los Ice Creams miss the Ice Cream Sandwich, but Jagged comes in to put on a headlock to keep him in their corner. Sailer manages to slip out of Jagged’s grasp and tag in Fire Ant after a lengthy beatodwn. Fire Ant delivers multiple dropkicks to Los Ice Creams after pitching Jagged to the floor. He and Soldier Ant deliver tandem prawn holds for two. They dropkick Los Ice Creams to the floor and dive out after them. In the ring Jagged dropkicks Sailer. Sailer blocks his monkey flip and goes for one of his own. Jagged turns it into a cradle DDT for two. Sailer responds with a Blue Thunder Bomb. The Colony and Los Ice Creams are still fighting on the floor. Sailer dives onto Jagged on the floor. In the ring Soldier Ant falls victim to the Two Scoop Slam. Referee Matt Dillon disposes of the sprinkles. Jr. monkey flips Soldier Ant into a hip attack from Hijo. That gets Hijo the pin at 16:59. Why don’t Los Ice Creams use that finish anymore? It was great! Sailer looked really awkward whenever he was on offense and this felt a little too long. Aside from that this was a perfectly fine opening match. **1/2

Portia Perez is backstage. She doesn’t know who Daizee Haze thinks she is cheating and bullying women’s wrestlers across the East Coast. She’s here to give Daizee a reality check and plans to serve her up a loss.

Daizee Haze vs. Portia Perez

I demand Portia Perez use “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” by the Eurythmics as her entrance theme again (even if I do think “Edge of Seventeen” is pretty good). This is Perez’s CHIKARA debut match. Haze breaks a lock-up in the corner. Bryce stops her from delivering a cheap right hand. She tries to do it again, but Perez schoolgirls her for two. Haze drops some knowledge about Atlantis (I think?) on the crowd. A fan insults her (I couldn’t hear that clearly either) but it got a nice pop. Perez firewoman’s carry’s Haze into a courting hold. Haze transitions into a wristlock and gives Perez a nice slap across the face. Perez teases a slap but instead rolls her up for two. Perez delivers a Japanese armdrag and a hip toss. Haze bails to the floor. Haze trips Perez and lays in a flurry of punches. She snapmares Perez into a dropkick to the lower back. Haze bodyscissors Perez after a modified full nelson slam. She rolls it into a Gedo Clutch for two. Haze whips her to the corner and clotheslines her in the back of the neck. Haze suplexes her into a Butterfly Lock. Haze gets two with a Northern Lights suplex. Perez cradles Haze to block another suplex. Perez gets two with a backslide. Perez ducks the Heart Punch. Perez spinwheel kicks her in the chin for two. Haze blocks a Complete Shot. The Heart Punch connects but her kick to the head does not. Perez drops her with a neckbreaker. Perez goes for a sunset flip. Haze sits down on it and grabs the ropes to get the pin at 10:00. Solid wrestling all around, and the finish pushes Haze as the “cheating female” of the CHIKARA roster even further. I don’t think I have ever seen Perez wrestle as a Tecnico before tonight and she did a good job in that role. **1/4

Darin Corbin {NSE} & Ryan Cruz {NSE} vs. UltraMantis Black & Hydra

Hydra does some push-ups to show Corbin his strength. He can barely do one, but is very proud of himself anyways. Corbin shows off his much superior push-up skills. Hydra does push-ups on his knees. When he’s corrected, he can’t do a real one. Corbin easily wins a test of strength, putting Hydra in a bridge. Hydra’s claw does nothing at all. Corbin airplane spins him. Hydra is so dizzy that he tries giving Bryce Remsburg a claw. Remsburg is so annoyed by this that he airplane spins Hydra. Mantis pitches Corbin to the floor and Cruz does the same to Hydra. Cruz headscissors Mantis to the corner and gives him a pair of armdrags. Cruz and Corbin hit a double gutbuster and tandem dropkicks to the side of Mantis’ head. Hydra’s double back suplex attempt fails. Mantis trips Corbin to block Corbin and Cruz from delivering the Everlasting Gobstopper to Hydra. He throws Cruz out and attacks Corbin’s neck. He and Hydra get two with the Quebec Crash. Corbin finally escapes their grasp by simply throwing punches and rolling to his corner. Cruz takes them both out with forearms and clotheslines. Mantis accidentally clotheslines Hydra. Cruz hits a standing moonsault on Mantis. Hydra breaks the cover. Cruz does some Three Stooges type offense. Corbin and Cruz force Hydra to suplex Mantis. Hydra is so naïve he thinks he did something good. The North Stars double chokeslam him. The Cruz Control gets them the pin at 10:43. The North Stars now have three points. This was a match more based on humor than action, and to that effect it worked. It was entertaining and kept fairly short. There title match with Hero and Claudio should be great. **1/4

Arik Cannon is hanging out by some firetrucks in the building. He thanks the fans for buying the DVD to see him and the stars o CHIKARA. He dedicates his match to those fans tonight. Thanks Arik!

Young Lions Cup
Arik Cannon (Champion) vs. Equinox

Equinox earned this shot by defeating Jagged last night. Cannon and Equinox exchange arm holds. Equinox brings Cannon to the mat in a wristlock. He brings Cannon up in a side headlock. Equinox’s shoulder tackle attempt fails. Equinox trips him and gets two with a prawn hold. Cannon knees him in the gut. Equinox comes off the top rope with an alita into a pin attempt. Equinox gets two with a headscissors and huracanrana. Cannon punches Equinox to block a springboard attempt. He gives Equinox Total Anarchy to bring him back in. Cannon slaps Equinox’s chest repeatedly, going along with the fans hand claps. He locks up Equinox’s legs around his own. Cannon puts on a hammerlock to stretch Equinox out. Equinox gets to the ropes. Cannon snapmares him for two. He gets two again after a delayed vertical suplex. Equinox slips out Cannon’s legs. He misses a standing shooting star press and gets turned inside out with a lariat. Equinox seems like he’s knocked cold. Cannon gives Equinox a Saito suplex anyways for the pin at 7:40. That was really interesting finish. Cannon has been trying to convince us he’s had a change of heart and is a good guy, then goes and suplexes a guy on his head when he’s already been knocked loopy. The match was good up to that point and was one of Equinox’s better outings. **3/4

Larry Sweeney is stressed out. After he lost the Tex-Arkana title to Eddie Kingston, he went to Mama Sweeney for advice on how to get back at one of his closest friends who turned his back on him. She didn’t care much for Kingston when she first met him. She told Larry that he and Kingston aren’t come from the same cloth. Sweeney agreed, saying that people like Sweeney are winners while people like Kingston are losers who end up in a bar at the end of the night. Sweeney angrily insists that come hell or high water, he WILL be champion by the end of the night.

ICW/ICWA Tex-Arkana Television Championship
Eddie Kingston (Champion) vs. Larry Sweeney

Sweeney is in his street fight gear again. Sweeney throws overhand chops, which Kingston just absorbs. Sweeney then punches him in the head. Kingston lights up Sweeney with chops in the corner. Sweeney ducks a yakuza kick. He overhand chops Kingston and delivers another punch. Kingston backdrops Sweeney to the floor. Kingston follows Sweeney. Sweeney baits him in and throws Kingston shoulder first into the ring post. Sweeney slams his arm into a different ring post twice. Sweeney twists up Kingston’s arm in the bottom rope. Sweeney then puts on a chinlock after raking Kingston’s eyes. He kicks Kingston in the stomach while twisting his arm. Kingston tells Sweeney he better kill him. Sweeney throws a few more shots at the shoulder and suplexes him. Sweeney comes off the top rope twice, sledging down on Kingston’s shoulder. The third time however Kingston catches him with a clothesline as he comes down. Kingston Backfists Sweeney after absorbing more punches. He delivers a yakuza kick. Sweeney gets his foot on the ropes to break a pin. Sweeney goes to the floor to try and retrieve his belt. Kingston follows. Sweeney bites him and suplexes him on the floor. Sweeney grabs UltraMantis Black’s car keys from the Commentation Station and heads out the door. Kingston follows him out. Sweeney ends up hitting Kingston with his car! Kingston grabs his knee in agony on the asphalt. Sweeney stops the car to take a good look. Kingston yells to Sweeney that he’s going to kill him as Bryce and some other CHIKARA roster members come out to check on him. I have this match clocked in around 7:14, ending in a double count out. Obviously this was all an angle to set up for a bigger blow off match. Sweeney now has the title in his possession and has done severe damage to Kingston. I thought this feud was already at a good level, but now it’s escalated to a whole new plateau. **1/2

Icarus and Gran Akuma are standing by. Icarus he has a new outlook on life since losing his hair last month. He invites Hallowicked and Delirious to spout out all the gibberish they want. That won’t save them from what he and Akuma have in store.

Delirious & Hallowicked vs. Icarus {F} & Gran Akuma {F}

Delirious freaks out at the bell. Delirious rubs Icarus’ shaved head mockingly and calls him Dumbo. Icarus can’t help but crack a smile at that comment. Icarus puts on a hammerlock. Delirious rolls him into a crucifix pin for two. Delirious chases Icarus around the building. He takes a seat in the crowd which confuses Delirious. Hallowicked and Akuma end up the legal men as Icarus “magically” reemerges on the apron. Akuma monkey flips Hallowicked. Hallowicked alita’s him across the ring. Hallowicked ducks a leapfrog. Akuma kicks the inside of his leg. Hallowicked still manages a Mexican catapult and schoolboys Akuma for two. Delirious blind tags in. He puts Akuma on his shoulders. He slams him on his stomach and trips Icarus on top of him. Hallowicked ties F.I.S.T’s limbs up and stretches them out. Delirious dropkicks them simultaneously. Akuma kicks Delirious from the apron so Icarus can deliver a clothesline. Delirious is isolated and bullied by F.I.S.T. Delirious is able to avoid a corner attack from Icarus and a slingshot senton from Akuma. Akuma foolishly clotheslines Delirious to the floor, bringing in Hallowicked who lays out F.I.S.T. with repeated clotheslines. He gives Akuma a step-up enzuigiri. Delirious throws Icarus into him. Hallowicked dropkicks Icarus into Akuma, as does Delirious. Hallowicked O’Conner Rolls Icarus. Icarus kicks Hallowicked away and into Akuma in advertently. Icarus accidentally spears Akuma. Hallowicked gives him a Rydeen Bomb and Akuma breaks the cover. Akuma gives him a Falcon Arrow. Delirious breaks that cover. Akuma slams Delirious. Delirious crotches Icarus on the top rope. He gives him a dangling neckbreaker for two. Delirious and Hallowicked double hip toss Akuma, then give him a legdrop/side slam combo. Delirious goes for Chemical Imbalance II. Akuma blocks it with a straightjacket neckbreaker. Icarus gets two with a frogsplash. Icarus goes for the Wings of Icarus on Hallowicked. Hallowicked escapes. A step-up huracanrana and big boot lead to a Graveyard Smash attempt. Icarus slips out and hits the Wings of Icarus for the pin at 17:30. These two teams seem to have really good chemistry. Then again, Hallowicked and Icarus were partners for awhile. This probably could have been shorter, but it didn’t drag on and any sloppiness was recovered from very quickly. ***

Chris Hero says CHIKARA has been having a problem. Claudio’s original opponent for last night, Milano Collection AT, wasn’t there. Tonight, they were supposed to face Jigsaw and Shane Storm, but Jigsaw got beaten down so badly last night that he can’t compete. In Hero’s mind, this just leaves Storm, who he beat down last month. Hero and Claudio don’t think Storm has any chance of winning.

Mike Quackenbush & Shane Storm vs. Chris Hero {KOW} & Claudio Castagnoli {KOW}

Mike Quackenbush of course will serve as Jigsaw’s replacement. Storm and Hero trade wristlocks. Hero won’t budge from Storm’s shoulder tackles. Storm catches him with an armdrag. Hero flips into his duck walk. He wheelbarrows Hero out of the corner and gets two with a flying forearm. Hero does a handstand in the corner. Storm shoves him to the floor. Storm fakes a dive then tags in Quackenbush. Hero pretends like he’s going to lock-up, but tags in Claudio instead. Claudio’s also a little hesitant. Quackenbush puts on a standing Octopus stretch and rolls out into an armdrag. Hero gets angry that somebody left chewing gum on the ring apron. Quackenbush armdrags Claudio back to the floor. Quackenbush flips out of his cascade down Claudio’s back and gets mowed down with a clothesline. Quackenbush escapes a nerve hold and slaps Claudio across the face. Claudio blocks a Lucha pop. Quackenbush headscissors him to the corner. Hero misses a senton. He pops up Quackenbush who lands in a huracanrana that sends Claudio out. Quackenbush armdrags Hero to the floor. Stereo suicide dives take out the Kings of Wrestling. In the ring Storm huracanrana’s Claudio. Hero blind tags in. Claudio uppercuts Storm and assists Hero with a back suplex. Hero knocks Quackenbush off the apron to get his ire up. The Kings’ beat down and stretch Storm out while Quackenbush looks on. Storm fires up from Hero’s forearms to the back. He nails a spinwheel kick to Hero’s face. He rolls through Hero’s legs and tags in Quackenbush. He angrily takes down Hero with an elbow and knee strike. Quackenbush sends him to the floor and hip tosses Claudio in from the apron. He windmill chops Claudio to the ropes. Claudio hits the Match Killer for two. Quackenbush blocks an uppercut. He takes down Claudio with a headscissors into a crucifix pin. Hero breaks the cover. He gets palm struck and sent to the floor. Claudio sends Quackenbush out with his uppercut. Storm dropkicks Claudio. Hero suplexes Storm on the back of his head. Storm blocks a Cravate Buster and delivers two German suplexes. He goes for the Air Raid Crash. Hero counters with a rolling variation of that move. Quackenbush saves Storm with a swanton bomb to Hero. He dishes out the windmill chops to Hero. Hero absorbs them all with intensity. Quackenbush hits the Quackendriver III. Claudio makes the save. He also falls victim to the Quackendriver III. This time, Hero makes the save. Hero pops Quackenbush into Claudio. Claudio gives him a powerbomb for two. Hero throws Storm off his shoulders. Hero monkey flips Claudio onto Storm’s knees. Hero also accidentally dropkicks him. Claudio misfires an uppercut and hits Hero. Storm throws Claudio out. Storm then rolls up Hero for the pin at 23:13. I’m glad Quackenbush and Storm got the win here, because I felt the CHIKARA guys looked pretty hopeless last night. I also like it because we got to see some pretty serious miscommunication between Hero and Claudio before their match with the North Stars, giving that match a little more sizzle and the North Stars a fighting chance to win. This was another match that could have been helped with a few minutes trimmed down in the middle, but it was quite a solid match and a big win for Storm. ***1/4

Hero and Claudio play the blame game and a shoving match. The North Star Express come out to inform Hero and Castagnoli that they are cashing in their points right away, and will get as shot at Los Campeones de Parejas next month in Reading.
